Thanks for that RPS. I shall assume my cousins worked at Baginton, but maybe at Whitley! In 1939 who can be sure?
Nice to have some family involved in probable Whitley production just before the war.

Thanks Consul. I have been ferreting more deeply and just saw this in Wikipedia:

Production was initially at three factories in Coventry; fuselages and detailed components were fabricated at Whitley Abbey, panel-beating and much of the detailed work at the former Coventry Ordnance Works factory, while wing fabrication and final assembly took placed at Baginton Aerodrome.

I missed it before asking my question. This suggests that components were built just outside Baginton and then final assembly done there. BTW I’ve not heard of Whitley ABBEY before. The photos of the production line that I have seen on line (virtually complete airframes having engines fitted) must be at Baginton then. Whatever, cycling to Whitley or Baginton would not have been much different for my cousins. I wonder what bits they “assembled”.

Ah yes, now I see it. Thanks. But isn’t the spinner a bit too thick? Due to the fire? https://www.aviationphotocompany.com/p78093854/h1a287f3b#h1a287f3b

I agree that the spinner looks very blunt for an Argosy, but Dahl did publish in Argosy magazine in the 1950s. Any relation, I wonder.

It’s a great museum. I used to live not far away and it was a regular haunt for me.

It is on the site of the former RAF Sharjah, the first airfield in the region. The old control tower and the old fort, the passenger “terminal” for the HP42s, are still there. The main runway was where the main street runs past nearby.

Don’t be fooled by the fake identities of several of the aircraft. I wrote up my take on them at:

There is also a long thread on the subject of RAF Sharjah at https://www.pprune.org/aviation-hist…ht=raf+sharjah

This must be one of the last Avionnettes built, by Walter Haug at Bex, not far from me, first flight in 1990. Built around the Poinsard engine that Haug had acquired. Taken at Lausanne 2011.
Avion a: I’d appreciate a few pommes if you have any to spare.

Agreed. I guess someone, somewhere has that bit of the fin. Your question was a bit unusual. I wonder why you were looking for details of that particular event …

    Hello Stratosphere.
    According to http://spotaero.blogspot.com/2014/08…la-montee.html

A-17 dropped the AN52 weapon at Mururoa in 1974. There is a photograph of it if you scroll down that page, marked as 11-RK. I think the nose and cockpit are preserved at Condé-Vraux museum. http://bdd.deltareflex.com/cns_affiche.php?image=22016. According to that site it was with EC 1/7 Provence at the time of the tests in 1974.

OK, I’ll try it. The forum is getting back to something like its old self. There are still a few bits to go. Notably speed, but that seems to vary. Keep up the good work! Thanks

Thanks jamesm – I got this notification. Most grateful.

What I would like now is to get a link to “latest unread post” – very useful to see if there is something new in a thread. I appreciate your efforts in this difficult moment!!

Where are the notifications of responses to subscribed threads? I’ve asked several times already, but no reply so far. Thanks
