Back to the aeroplane, how is work progressing? Any pictures?
Noting Bens comment above from last year, it isn’t owned by IWM. In fact its owner was over at the weekend, flying something shiny!
That’s a big Hint ;^D
Any idea where Chris has gone Mackeral? I have worked with him in the past, lovely chap.
My fear is that a hacker won’t understand the forum code of conduct. Imagine a forum without all the sniping…
There is so much dismay in this thread, the moderators must enjoy the “sport”. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of “community” on here at times…
I do hope we see a Barracuda in my lifetime, and in the lifetime of other interested parties.
I do find this forum amusing but ultimately frustrating. Before the “in fighting” continues, why not just move on? The PBY is wrecked, and is now only good for salvage and scrap. No kangaroo court on here will rectify history.
And it has PA474 on its side?
Ian,
I’ve only just stumbled across this thread, wow! Just to let you know, Napier are still extant here in Lincoln, Lincolnshire. They may still hold drawings for the Sabre. Definitely worth an email I’d have thought. Search for Napier Turbochargers.
Kind regards,
Piston
Thank you Mr Creosote. I suspected that may be the case but wanted it to be confirmed by the experts. It’s a pity really as they really are very pleasant to flick through, a real snapshot in time.
Kind regards
Piston.
Ha, and similarly for the non combative, kerosene burning OV-10 Bronco’s.
Hi Al. I meant the pitot tubes. They could leak on a Lightning, I kid you not!
Hi Robbiesurf,
Yes, this phenomenon was mentioned in the crash of the T5 Lightning in South Africa. On the accident report it was noted that fuel was seen leaking out of the pitot probe, which I find utterly terrifying as the air data system is compromised somewhat, not to mention the fuel system! It’s all on the SA AAIB report. I hope this link works:

Piston…Broke.
I heard that both the vC-10 and Nimrod crews were asked to practice the landing into Cosford on the sim. I believe the latter was practised in excess of 60 times with 100% success rate. I was told that no one was willing to “take the risk” and sign off the authority for the flights. It does seem somewhat long winded to get them to Cosford via road, but at least they’re there.
“Bob” was the first Ten I flew in, and the last I worked on.
One of my mates works the RTP at Leeming (he’s just leaving though) and he says it’s all completely destroyed on site by a very clever smelter that takes the stripped airframes less useful components, and melts them down to liquid. Each metal is sorted automatically by the smelter.
I think it looks beautiful, with such an interesting scheme. Has the hook the ability to extend AND retract in flight?? Are the Grace Family the owners? Thanks for sharing the links to the images Mark 12.
K5054NZ, the lens woman (Daisy) is closely connected with the Graces if I remember correctly.
