The ticket price for the surrounding demographic is pretty high, to be honest. Lincoln (and lots of Lincolnshire) has lagged behind other areas of the country in terms of income and housing prices (I’m generalising here). Lots of locals thought the price too high, by the tune of over £10 too much. Factor in a family of 4 and it gets a bit expensive.
I think not having an RAF Lincolnshire airshow in the RAF’s Centenary year is a HUGE oversight and very embarrassing, but typifies the state of finances/stretch that the Forces are going through at the moment.
Scampton Airshow got it wrong on several levels including some behind the scenes stuff that put a few noses out of joint, mine included. They are a commercial organisation that demonstrated lots of money grabbing, but little thought for both local and the military community, and the history that goes with it. I wish them every success when (if) they return in 2019, but hopefully they’ll recognise when they need to be a little more giving, and less taking.
When I read “Brewster” in the above post, I absolutely got way too excited thinking someone may be building a Buffalo somewhere! Apart from the Finnish derivative, are there any survivors?!
Although it’s still a way off, I’m looking forward to seeing the Black Widow fly at the MAAM.
Wow, it’s very BLUE! Is that shade accurate?
Micromesh is the stuff used to remove scratches on aircraft transparencies. Be aware that it’ll take elbow grease aplenty, and if the transparency is clouded, you’ll never get it clear again.
His Diss is in Norfolk, I suspect he meant dis(respect)….
Wow! Cameras allowed inside, what a coup!
I think we can say comfortably that the Yak 55 is historic! It’s hardly a cutting edge aerobat….
Don’t be so touchy man, I wasn’t directing anything at you in particular. I know not to go sabre rattling with someone who goes by the name “meddle”…
Gumtree?!?!?! I’m sure he was beating away offers with a stick. :highly_amused:
While I appreciate that you can’t save ’em all, there is still something mildly frustrating about a historic aircraft that has gone from being a flyer to a dismantled heap of parts. Especially given that another Twin Pioneer was bought and parted out purely to keep this one a flyer.
This is the scenario where forum dwellers really ought to try joined up thinking. Save something by actually getting of ones **** and throwing in some dollar. This forum has amongst its membership all the attributes required to purchase, store, restore, legislate and operate an aircraft such as the Twin Pioneer. But that needs leadership, teamwork and positivity. How pitiful that the jeering, I don’t like Spitfires/Duxford threads, nothing to do with me attitudes pervade.
Those old aeroplanes will continue to decline, what are YOU doing to stop that happening?
(Before I get flamed, I work professionally on 50’s jets, trying to help keep them airworthy, rectifying faults and combating the corrosion that just keeps coming).
I can’t figure that out either TA! Less aerobatic, more power, heavy elevator, slower roll, with greater momentum. Gear looks like a ground handling nightmare.
Isn’t it off to be a ‘glamping’ tent?!
This forum is odd! What the heck is the Spitfire-ism about?!? This thread is about a rare airworthy multi engine transport, why even mention a wartime fighter? I’m starting to think a few on here are losing their mental fitness, sadly.
In the meantime, great achievement there guys, that Boeing looks really good!
For the initiated, does the Sea Fury engine conversion use the same cowling that cloaked the Centaurus?
Can anyone explain the cats ass zap further please? A friend who owns a canvas body Austin Seven special has the same image drawn by his late father in the engine bulkhead when the former RAF fitter was building the car. It’d be good to tell him more.
