First off Shot blasting isn’t the best method because if can simply drive the corrosion into the metal, What I would use if B55 as a chemical treatment to kill it, it is the equivalent of “Jenolite” for Aluminium..

    Details here

    http://www.mcgean.org/pdfs/datasheet/ceebee/DS22009.pdf

Avoid using it on steel, for that I would use Jenolite.

Coating the metal afterwards with Alodine 1200 will provide a protective finish prior to repainting.

    Then a decent etch primer

once you have done and painted I would use a coat of ACF 50 on any internal parts of bare metal as this forms a skin that lifts any remaining corrosion form the skin and provides a protective coating. it also works between skin joins and stops any corrosion from forming in there.

    Again see

    Hope that helps

Probably because the newspaper report is dated January 5th.

    Digging and stirring IMO.

I know it is, but it was working on their statement up to march 2009..

Now unless they have had a massive windfall in the last couple of months which I doubt it shows that all the last big push to milk the public was not to go forward, but simply to fill in the ever widening financial cracks behind them, or at least smooth over the top of them.

Thanks, she just sits there and does cockpit visits, the shrouds around the rear of the exhausts have corroded away, but they have painted her of late, but a bit close to the sea for anything else really to happen than to get some corrosion on her..

    Says it all really……
All the last fundraiser did was to reduce the debt, not really fund the on going flying, if the fail at RIAT I can see it being parked up… Makes you wonder if engineering is £320,000 and the main engineering contractor is owed £1.3 million which I assume includes labour how they have annual staff costs of £620,000?

Trust accounts show annual staff costs for the financial year ending in March 2009 are likely to be £620,000, while engineering and maintenance costs are estimated at £320,000. The Trust will also have to find a further £430,000 for insurance and fuel in the coming year.
The trust is shown to owe £100,000 to its landlord, C Walton Ltd.
The figures also show the Trust owes the main engineering contractor £1.3 million, a sum which it has put to one side, to allow the project to continue.
The trust acknowledged that if it were not for the generosity of key creditors, the plane would never have taken off again in October 2007.
A statement said: “Delays and unforeseen problems added to costs through 2007.
“But significant goodwill on the part of the trust’s creditors, in particular prime contractor and engineering authority Marshall of Cambridge Aerospace Ltd and landlord C Walton Ltd, allowed the trust to reach the milestone of first test flight in October 2007.”
David Walton, of C Walton Ltd, confirmed the company was owed a six-figure sum.
He said: “The figure is larger than the £100,000 mentioned in the accounts.
“We are being patient with the trust and we are in talks. We hope the trust comes through, although it is a tough ask in the current economic climate.”
He said his company would have to consider its options should the appeal fail.
A spokesman for Marshall of Cambridge Aerospace confirmed the £1.3 million debt and said talks were continuing.
Trust chief executive Dr Robert Pleming said: “If we cannot get sufficient pledges or donations between now and the end of January the project will have to close and the Vulcan will not fly again.”
The Vulcan to the Sky Trust has launched a Save the Vulcan campaign to obtain cash and pledges from the public.
A Trust said 15,000 people pledging £4 a month for a year would reach the £1million target if it was gift aided to obtain tax relief.
He said no pledges would be called on unless the prospect of reaching £1million was likely.
Project supporter Phil Baildon of Market Harborough said: “The nation cannot afford to lose such an important part of our aviation heritage.
“I would urge people to pledge a regular amount to secure its survival.”

    Hi,

A rather odd ball question, but bear with me….

I decided after the death of my Grandfather earlier this year, that it would be a nice touch to ‘forward deploy’ an airfix model at his graveside, which I swap every few weeks or so. (Currently a 1/72 model of an Avro Vulcan B2).

What I have discovered, is that because the model is exposed to the elements, the decals become very brittle, and break off.

Is there anyway you can think of which would keep the decals on more firmly?

Out of interest, his funeral caused quite a stir in the sleepy Norfolk village of Flordon back in January. Due to his love of aviation, especially the Vulcan, it was decided that one piece of music played during the service would be slightly….different!

I found up an old cassette tape entitled ‘The Mighty Vulcan.’ An extract of this was played….at FULL volume!

More specifically, it was a recording of a touch & go (complete with a superb Vulcan howl !!). It certainly made the hair on the back of peoples necks stand up! The vicar certainly had a smile on his face!

    Thanks

    Matt

I got to say this Matt, He would be Sooooo proud of you.

Remember Princes Diana, did not stop them then, must be distressing for his Children, no matter how he acted in real life, they are innocent in all of this and do not deserve to possibly be confronted with their fathers corpse plastered across the Media.

Their grief was an eye opener to me as I always thought they never saw anything of him.

    Hey way to go Guys,

If I am correct I remember when you started out restoring this and I sent you the Cyclic for it 🙂 as you had not any of the interior, I often wondered how far you had got and I am staggered……….

Have you tried Everett Aero, as they have spares for them……… Though I can see not wanting to buy one as its a fund raiser for a good cause and buying would be self defeating.

    [QUOTE][News Update – Thursday 9th July 2009

A key conclusion from the reaction to the cancellation of the Waddington displays is that VTST did not have an effective and timely-enough way of telling our supporters what was happening.

When the decision was made at midnight on Friday 2nd July to cancel the following day’s display, whilst the airshow organisers and local radio stations were informed, there was no mechanism in place to instantly update the website.

From today, any future announcement of a change of plan, for example, the non-appearance of XH558 at an event, will be made not only via an urgent news flash on our website, but also via a message on the XH558 Twitter feed, as well as through conventional media.

We remain very sorry to have caused so much disappointment at Waddington last weekend.

    Best Regards,

    Robert Pleming
