Ant, Thrust SSC and Thrust 2 live at whatever the motoring museum is called, in Coventry.

Damien-maybe we can hang a three-hour love story plot around that, too?! 😉

Getting back on topic a little, it also makes no difference now if the Land Speed Record is broken again, as your average man on the street now has no idea what Thrust SSC was, or what was achieved with it; so if Joe Public cares not at all that we broke the sound barrier on land, then they’ll care even less that it’s been increased by a few miles an hour.

Although there’s more to it, Craig Breedlove-who has a car all ready to go-couldn’t get a penny from any sponsors once SSC had done it’s thing, and the car has just sat ever since.

    Sadly, no one cares anymore.

Without even clicking on ‘bluecorsair’s link, I bet that’s the ‘Budweiser Rocket’, yes?

Totally against all established record-breaking rules, not independently verified, and about as vaild as Monopoly money.

    WE did it first.

    Weep, Yanky boys!!!

The Yanks will argue that whoever holds the record is the thing that matters, but with SSC being the first to break the sound barrier on land, anything else is just numbers.

The Yanks can go as fast as they like, but they’ll still have to pass the Union Jack to get there…

LOL @ everyone, that’s the spirit!

Surprised that no one has yet mentioned a certain suspender-clad actress yet…;)

Usual wishy-washy reply re. this from Hendon, of which I’ve had a few myself. How it makes the Lanc ‘more dynamic’ is beyond me.

    LOL, now THAT’S style!

I even love the way he describes the Lancaster as ‘a waste of four perfectly good Merlins’!!!

    A true, true star.

I sincerely hope that the ‘Major’ still gets to fly Supermarine’s finest, at least from time to time, as he’s the most fantastic character, bl**dy good at what he does, and deserves to keep flying ’em.

BBMF really won’t be the same without him-a true ‘end of era’ moment.

Maybe if he’s passing, ‘Fluffy’ can both let us know if he’s left yet, and pass on best wishes too?

Well as I’ve related here before, Hendon told me that the Lanc display was supposed to represent the aircraft landing, and to give Joe Public ‘a better view of the c**kpit’.

Crammed in with other aircraft, bomb doors open, main wheels sat in ‘shoes’, who are they trying to kid? And the ‘sky’ projection that used to be located immediately behind the aircraft fooled no one, even when it WAS there. (Which it hasn’t been, for years)

Also, you see no more of the c**kpit in this attitude at all. I know I make light of my annoyance with ‘the perch’ on here, and allow fellow members a giggle at my expense too, but really, I think such a half-ar*sed display is pretty demeaning to what is supposed to be one of the museum’s premier aircraft.

    Cr*p, cr*p, cr*p.

    Grrrrr! 😡

LOL! ‘I think we shud restor the Blenheim yursing MDF, it wud be reerly reerly gud…’

    I can’t stand her, either!

Don’t worry Mogs, I’m not seeking some Holy Grail definitive answer, just asking opinions, given that there’s such a huge variation in what colour owners spray the innards of their machines!
