The AN-2 is still at Baxterley, it is still for sale, though a sale has been agreed, if not completed. PM me if you would like to express an interest, in case the sale falls through

Some years ago I tried hard to get the Boulton Paul Association involved in the restoration of the Barracuda, as it was BP-built, but was knocked back. I was so pleased when you guys took it on, and even more pleased when I saw you commendable progress. The FAA should be bending over backwards to help and support you, their actions seem extraordinary, but sadly these days, not unsurprising

So do I, David, but Flixton must be running out of undercover accomodation, especially if they have to house the P.6 and Overstrand as well, which they will, as they are hardly weather proof.

Further exhibits slotted into the TTHC are the ‘electric’ Leonides, an Alvis Leonides, with one surviving pot, restored by the late Steve Dorrance to ‘run’ from a 12 v battery, and an experimental Rotol electric propeller, tested on a Hurricane during the War and then converted to a cut=away unit.

Forumites may have noticed in the latest FlyPast that the former Boulton Paul Association collection is being dispersed across the length and breadth of the country, the Defiant to Hawkinge, the P.6, Overstrand cockpit and Hunter T.7 cockpit to Norfolk and Suffolk, and 1:10 scale models up for sale. We offered to house as much of the collection as we could , here in Wolverhampton, (everything but the Defiant and Balliol FSMs), but did not even receive a reply.

Our weekend opening day is now 10 am to 4 pm Sunday if anyone wished to drop in and have a look at what we’re up to.

I think the engine is actually an ex-tank engine, from what I have seen of it running on You Tube. Mike Nieman is the owner’s name, and a glance at some of his engines running is very interesting, especially when the P & W 4460 backfires. The garden hosepipe he had ready hardly looked enough

Those are the engines. If you Google Tettenhall Transport Heritage Centre and click on our Facebook Page you will see more pictures, including the P & W with a prop fitted, and the other engines he has

Just found this thread after returning from California. I help organise the Halfpenny Green events, and we have tried to have static engines running on most occasions. We would like to expand this if the interest is there.

In Napa Valley I came across a guy who has his own EngineFest, I nearly crashed the car in St,Helena, when I passed a parking lot with a VW Beetle with a 440 hp Continental radial mounted on the back. He must have a helluva lot of ballast in the boot at the front. A placard on the nearby wall said the engine drives the VW forward at a yet to be determined top speed, and also says it it the most dangerous VW in the World. I believe him. He also had a trailer mounted P & W R4430 (if I have the numbers correct, ex-B-36). There were also about ten other radials in the workshop at the back of the lot and in his garden on the other side of the railway track which ran behind that.

I don’t know how to post Photos on here, but I will add an album to the Tettenhall Transport Heritage Centre’s Facebook Page if anyone is interested enough to Google it

For a very short space of time, before Hawkinge get their hands on it, the RAF Museum will have the chance to display a representation of the Defiant which probably shot down the Dornier, alongside the wreckage. The Boulton Paul Association’s Defiant FSM is painted in the colours of a Defiant which shot down 2 of the 6 Dorniers downed by Defiants that day. It sits dismantled in a Cosford storage hangar, and the RAF Museum say they don’t want it, which is why it is probably destined for Hawkinge.

One thing I thought about today. Do Hawkinge have school groups going around ? If so, are the school groups armed with clipboards, pens, and pieces of paper with questionnaires/projects, as they are in every museum I have ever been in ?

I am particularly interested, being the curator of a shortly to open aircraft museum, I would like to get my head around their philosophy. Our policy will be to encourage photography, and note taking. We will be in the business of disseminating information, by whatever means. I really cannot understand why we would want to limit the amount of information any visitor can take away, to what they can actually memorise on the day.

If I make notes on my arm, will they cut it off ? And as the Defiant, I believe, is to be on permanent loan, as a BPA member am I to be prevented from photographing ‘my own property’ ?

I had a walk round Air & Ground’s piece of runway today, which has nearly been cleared. The Phantom and Hercules cockpits are side by side, both missing their radomes and both having been cut off with the JCB ‘nibbler’. The only other major items are two Lynx fuselages, XZ721 and XZ727, marked, ‘awaiting collection’ and two Pegasus engines.

Good News ! The Tardis has landed at Halfpenny Green. One of the Doctor’s is also there. Their adversary, a Dalek named Goldie is hiding in another hangar, waiting for the expected reinforcements in the morning. Let battle commence

See you there, Alan, I’m just off out on a Tardis hunt. There’s a phrase I never thought I would type.

I spoke to Watsons today, and there is indeed a clause in their agreement with Air and Ground which prevents them selling on any of the stuff they get, except as crushed lumps of metal. They were doing just that with big bits of Hercules while I was there. As they expect to get a lot more metal from A & G they are not going to upset them. A & G are a business, they are trying to make a profit, and are not going to let Watson’s undercut them. It’s a shame, but there it is

Some slight changes to the event. We will arrange a sneak preview viewing of progress at the Tettenhall Transport Heritage Centre on Sunday evening, less than 10 miles away for all cockpiteers and aerojumblers. If you want a table for the aerojumble, please book one in advance, they are free but always in short supply. There are already some very interesting aircraft booked in for the fly-in.
