In answer to your questions
I finally managed to get down and visit the maid today and I have to say I am mightily relived at what I found as I was hearing horror stories as to what was being removed.
Cosmetically 250 looks virtually the same inside and out as before with a couple of items missing, however I was shown some of the kit they have removed that they are coming back for and it Staggeringly rather a lot!!! As far as I can see its mainly Radar, comms and black boxes from behind panels. I also saw piled up the ADR, fatigue meter, antennaโs, LRUโs various, Tacan? And the remains of all that sneaky stuff.
Non of the kit removed will stop us operating on the thunder days (17th OCTOBER) please note.
All in all it could have been a lot worse.

No jest. There’s much consternation among the Victor crew about just how much is coming off the Maid… ๐
Nipping down tomorrow to assess ‘the damage’ not a happy bunny ๐
Assuming after the MOD raiding party’s done there’s any Nimrod left that is….
Words said in jest etc ๐
We are working our little backsides off to have her ready, to the extent of even turning up on a Sunday before the clock says PM! ๐
…so just what are you looking to change the oil in the Houchin into then…?! :diablo:
Sure you’ll have the Maid right for then, promises to be a good weekend. Possibly even with one whole can of Shandy Bass being passed around if someone feels like pushing the boat out! ๐
Facebook? ๐
We are all looking forward to the wings and wheels event, straws are being drawn to see which lucky soul gets the job of removing the bird poop off the inflight refuel probe and other assorted lovely jobs. However as a virgin(ish) groundcrew who are not allowed out without stabilizers, so we are being supported by a detachment of Groundcrew from Kinloss. From whom we hope to shamelessly rob blind as much kit and spares as possible ๐
We are however most looking forward to this mysterious legend that is Kamp Krusty ๐
There will be at least 5 of us staying over and we shall be bringing some Dandelion & Burdock to share with you Krusty veterans and swap the odd war story of ten
Unfortunately weekends are difficult to put in an appearance at the moment; weekdays are easier for us to turn up. Anyway one of our jobs this coming week is to change the oil on the Houchin ๐ฎ
Will be working weekends before the wings & wheels to make sure the maid is ready for her debut so we will see you all working hard then ๐
Anyway we have got the Facebook page up and running if nowt else, feel free to come and say hello, Just type in XV250 ๐
Anyone seen the Houchin? someone’s nicked it again :p
:D:D
However one thing troubles me, an important matter that I think hasn’t been properly thought through- if both Nimrod and Victor teams are going to be coming to play every Sunday, then the NAAFI’s definitely going to need a second coffee machine… ๐
Joking aside this might not be a problem as Sundays are not really the best day for us Nimrod chaps. Due to our work commitments midweek and Saturdays tends to be the best days for us, however we will endevour to attend on a Sunday when we can.
Victor Sim- Can you let me know when would be best for us to come down to blend the engine blades you want doing ?
:D:D

Thats why we have an Galley area ๐
Only a bloody british aircraft would switch on the Oil Pressure gauges for the engines at the navigators position, which isnt even in the cockpit!!
Yup threw me as well, bloody daft idea. Must be the Navigators union making sure they are always in work.
…Nothing stronger, of course! ๐
Perish the thought old chap ๐
Hello folks itโs your new next door neighbour here
Just want to say a big thank you for everyoneโs help and friendliness last Sunday. As it transpired I was the only bod available in the morning and as you can imagine getting a big lass like the Maid of Moray ready for her debut runs was no small task. So many thanks to one and all for all you assistance especially with that flippin wheel-less tow bar and shifting her into position, so that her jet efflux was ‘gently tickling’ the Herald behind.
The minor oil pressure problem has been resolved as expected; it was a switching problem i.e. they werenโt switched on ๐ so she is once again fully functional in all respects and is ready for the drag race with Lusty Lindy on the 31st July/1st August.
It was great to feel so welcome amongst you all and we look forward to having an orange juice or 2 with you all when the Thunder days are on.
