Someone mentioned that BAe Brough were planning to build a replica?
the ABCT’s website is up and running – check out: http://www.abct.org.uk/
And this is related to Historic Aviation in what way?????
Well, with half of the civil airliners at Cosford recently being scrapped, the threat of XH558 remaining grounded, numerous aerodromes being threatened, I thought I’d add a touch of humour.
Maybe it’s short for ‘flied lice’, aimed at the oriental market, who will no doubt be craving for food that combines both what they eat at home and traditional english food after bringing the Stirling back from China
Stirling? China? Please, explain yourself, sir…?
A pasty made of flies? I think I’ll pass.
How dare you, Sir!!!
A FlyPasty only contains the finest of Ingredients! Mr Ellis (master baker) will be most upset.
No offence Phillip, but judging by your equipment I think that you will have a very hard time making a living doing this. Two mega-pixels are not nearly high enough resolution for anything higher than a 2″x3″ print [SNIP]
I didn’t buy the 2m camera. It was just an idea. Then (circa 2000/2001) 3 million pixels was the norm. Now 6m to 8m pixels are the norm. The problem is that there are hundreds of good photographers with good DSLRs out there. The internet is also a good tool, which makes the business of providing good images very competitive.
I’ve played with the idea of becoming an aviation photographer for maybe six years now. I would imagine that the business in 10% photography, 10% Logistics (making sure you get to the right locations at the right time and getting the images to where they are needed FAST) and 80% selling yourself (Marketing).
I meet John Dibbs. Brilliant photographer and it would be pure fantasy to think I could produce work at the same level. I personally think that it’s not the photograph but the marketing which will make or break a photographer.

They give the S3 an “above average” rating. Not good. It looks good and is affordable, but isn’t brilliant. I would go for either the Canon EOS 20D or 30D.
Thank you both. Excellent results. Have a good weekend :O)
Great film – shot on Kodak’s new sugar coated film stock. I hear they are going to make a remake of The Final Countdown. The new film will feature an aircraft carrier manned by film critics and aviation buffs who go back in time to bomb the set of Pearl Harbour (The Movie). The japanese have a lot to answer for – without them we wouldn’t have to endure such trashy films.
I’ve found that I’ve missed some shots because of my lens being slow to Autofocus.
And it’s the lenses which is the most important part of your kit. Can anyone suggest a good to 300mm zoom lens for either a Nikon or Canon DSLR?
How about the Nikon D50 Dixons are selling one for £397.89.
6.1 million pixels Picture Resolution 8 million pixels would be better, but only just
18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G lens You’d need a longer lens for airshow work
2″ LCD screen
2.5 frames per second up to 137 shots
5 area auto-focus
0.2 second start up time
1/4000th – 30 second shutter speed
Aperture/Shutter priority
7 digital vari-program modes
Continuous shooting mode
Oh, dont buy just a camera body, the price difference is something like £50. Instead sell your surplus lens on ebay or through the local newspaper, you might get more money for it that way.
Please don’t confuse the Canon EOS 30D with the Canon EOS D30.
A few years ago (April 2000) Canon brought out the EOS D30 which featured a three million pixel CMOS. The new (just released) EOS 30D has an eight million pixel CMOS sensor.
Check out the dixons.co.uk website. You can buy a EOS 30D body for £999.89 and the same camera with a lens (18-55mm) for £899.89 (£100 less?). But you can buy a EOS 20D for with 18-55mm lens for £794.01. These are web prices only…
They no longer make the EOS 300D, so it’s down to either the 350D or the 30D. However, you might still be able to secure a EOS 20D if your lucky, which should come it at around £250 cheaper than the 30D. They have on at Dixons in Hull and another (demo) at Jacobs, also in Hull.
😉 Do you not mean ‘Too good to be forgotten?’ 😉
Those who can, teach. Those who cannot, post messages on Key Publishing Aviation Forums. 🙂
Okay, what’s the best typo or grammatical error you’ve seen on or in this forum?
