No surprise there since it’s what you want to hear. How ’bout what really happened though?

Oh, shame on you, Sferrin, for believing the testimony of a US pilot who was there. Don’t you know that all US sources (especially pilots) are corrupt, untrustworthy, and will say anything to conceal their aircraft’s countless failures?

But a Russian pilot? Or a Czech magazine? Paragons of absolute truth and honesty, they are. 😀

    Can someone explain NCTR?

NCTR = Non-Cooperative Target Recognition. It’s essentially a means of identifying another aircraft. Unlike IFF (Identify Friend or Foe), which listens for a certain transponder signal to determine an aircraft’s status, an NCTR system can actually determine (by radar or visual imaging) the aircraft type. Some newer radar systems have NCTR capability.

Not as technical an answer as you’ll get from some others here, but you get the idea.

Saw a program on The Military Channel today about Soviet swept-wing fighter/attack aircraft, and while I figure it was an older program from the 90’s,

I saw the same program today, and you’re correct – it’s a retitled episode of the Discovery Channel series “Wings of the Red Star.” The narration by Peter Ustinov is pretty cool. 😎

Seeing the show reminded me of something I meant to ask here a while back, but forgot about: what specific visual cues does one reference to distinguish between the MiG-27 and MiG-23BN? They both have the “duckbill” nose, but beyond that, I’m not certain of the (cosmetic) differences.

SOC, you have a lot more patience than I can claim for myself. Especially in the face of such…well, let’s be nice and call it “inflexibility of opinion.” 🙂

Yeah, it shows up the most while they’re out there littering the landscape with enemy aircraft. Damn crappy American aircraft.

And Im tired of seeing Flankers all the time, wish they would station some Mig-21’s where I live.

I see F-16s, T-38s, and C-5s all the time near my house, and am quite bored with them. I’d actually like seeing some Flankers on a daily basis, but of course that would most likely mean something bad had happened… 😀

Yes few billion dollars– you called $387 billion dollars a liquid real cash few dozens.
It doen’t matter how much you earn as a GDP, but living on borrowed times and budget overruns to make ends meet is not what the theme is. Do you know how much it costs to develop the vaunted untested Raptor.Russians don’t need such useless technology to make things happen. The yet to field Bulava ICBMs in its trial-$10million a piece is what they are thinking about. Something that they will use in annihilation, whereby both sides wouldn’t exist 30 minutes after the adventure.
Even having 15000 raptors wouldn’t make the U.S dare to make a slightest move for a confrontation. 60 years have past where such technologies-stealth were used on poor and defenseless nations. And #1 economy, yes but if you borrow money from allies to embark on useless technology,so be it. Let them do what they want with their meager funds, but they are clever at waisting it.I am saying they paid their debt outright something unimaginable in 50 years in the history of Paris Club. You keep waisting money while being in debt, fine for the U.S.For Russia I think it is a disgrace to soak himself in debt to pretend as if she is reach.
No electronic component is 100% produced in the U.S if you think the aircraft processors have solely been produced without any component originating or being processed outside of the U.S then you must be joking.

Just curious, bro: what color is the sky on your planet?

How many people are the US torturing in Gitmo, or at allies’ place where torture is legal?

What the Vietnamese did to captured American pilots at the Hanoi Hilton was torture. What the prisoners at Gitmo are going through is unpleasant, at worst.

How many Iraqi civilians did Saddam slaughter? Gas to death? Torture? Cut body parts off from? The Iraqis are going to have to fight and win if they want freedom. Surrender doesn’t mean the killing stops.

Now, now, Rocky, you know that’s not fair. Pointing out inconvenient facts to the “blame America” crowd is clearly against the rules.

The abilty not to fire at freindly forces/

Well, perhaps they could find a way to adapt the system used by British Challenger 2 tanks…oh, wait…never mind.

Fact is, friendly fire casualties have been an inevitable occurrence in warfare for hundreds of years. They just get more attention now because weapons on all sides are far more deadly. An incident which might have caused injuries in years past causes deaths today.

The FBI made thier comments a few years ago now…. which means that when Afganistan was invaded it was also done using a pack of lies….. there was never any “real” evidence…..

Now who’s the one who doesn’t read the newspaper?

How can the US provide the most deepest darkest secrets of the former USSR during the cold war…. yet still unable to find ONE man.

Because during the cold war the U.S. government actually believed in the value of HUMINT, before being dazzled by the promise of new technology (unfortunately).

HOw can the US spend a paltry $15million on the WHOLE 911 investigations and $60million on Bill Clintons sex adventures…..

Because determining responsibility for the attacks was an open and shut case.

Why was the NTSB not allowed to do its job and investigate the crashes??? TO this day those 4 aircraft have not been positivly identified…. nor have we heard any CVR from the aircraft themselves…. (we have seen transripts…ooooh how exciting)
The NTSB has investigated hijackings before… but thats right… this is different……..

Hmmm…I wonder where you could be heading with this?

Why can’t we see any videos of the 757 flying 30ft above the ground at over 400MPH ??? Dammit arent you interested to watch some guy who couldnt fly a C172, fly an airliner low level ?? I’d love to see it…..

Sure enough, that’s where you were heading. Hey, maybe Elvis and UFOs were involved in the attack…what do you think?

Hell i enjoyed buzzing people at every chance i got….

You’re a pilot…and yet you can’t spell at even a 4th grade level. How did you manage to pull that off?

I’d like to see Jetfuel melt steel…. theres a neat little trick…. oh yea we are all experts on here… duh

Oh yea sorry.. i forgot… we just swallow the load of jizz we got the media and never question anything…. for we are afterall mindless sheep, unable to form any real thought processes of our own, following the sheppard to the slaughter…..

…said the person who has obviously sucked down (with vigor) every 9/11 conspiracy story out there.

    (poorly written diatribe edited)

Your opinions might be taken more seriously if you bothered to learn something about spelling and grammar.

Here, the first two lessons are free:

    1. The country is Afghanistan, not Afganistan.

    2. The contraction for the phrase “you are” is “you’re,” not “your.”

There is (or was) a black project aircraft at Groom Lake designated YF-24.

Any info at all on that even if only where you heard it mentioned?

Dreamland Resort is the very best site for real (i.e., non-UFO) information regarding Groom Lake. They list a very brief reference to an aircraft designated YF-24, flown in the late 90s by USAF test pilot Joseph Lanni. Supposedly, the reference comes from his unclassified service biography.

Interestingly, regarding the YF-113, the article states that the YF-113 A-E were “cover” designations for MiG-17 and MiG-23s, but there was a prototype designated YF-113G, flown by Dennis Sager in the early 90s, not related to any MiG.

    Here’s the link: http://www.dreamlandresort.com/black_projects/black_projects_history.html

By all measures it should have been called an F-24 (IIRC 22 and 23 had been assigned by then but I could be wrong).

Actually, 24 may have already been assigned as well – the YF-24, a black project out at Groom Lake.
