PS. Aren’t you meant to be packing.
Hi Pete,
One book worth tracking down would be ‘Aeroplane Affair’ by the late John O. Issacs, John was a member of the Hampshire Aeroplane club team that rebuilt G-ALUA, (he went on to own G-ALUA) there are a couple pages dedicated to the aircraft.
The Zundapp as described by John; ” The Sweet-running little Zundapp engine produced by the German Motor Cycle firm was a joy in itself; though until we got the right plugs Viv Bellamy had his moments”.
Another route to try would be Eric Winkle Browns ‘Weird and Wonderful’ he highly praised the Zaunkonig for its superb handling qualities.
I seem to remember Vintage Aircraft Magazine and Control Column featuring the aircraft, I will try to dig these out.
What became of G-ALUA?
Good luck with this fascinating project.

I’m certainly looking forward to seeing the 190 at Duxford but to me it will never be as interesting as a real example, rather like the new build Yak 9’s.
Having seen and heard the RAF museums FW190 run many years ago a St Athan, I doubt very much the new build will offer the same levels of anticipation.
Here is a link to an original 190 project that is often overlooked, hopefully this should be in the air before too long. There is also a unique opportunity on offer.

Thanks 92 fis, a touch of Helicopter blindness crept in.
James, there are indeed two Rapides on display now, the other example was at one time registered in the UK as G-AERN.
FIO photos are here.

Some great pics there, do you know the story of how they still have a He11 E3 was it left over from the civil war ? and if so how did it survive ?
curlyboy
Good question Curlyboy,
I will endeavour to find out more of its history but according to the Preserved Axis aircraft website the airframe arrived in Spain in 1938 as part of the condor Legion, how it came to survive I don’t know.

A few more from this often overlooked collection.
The DH 4 replica may seem familiar to many as it passed through Duxford some years ago.
J Boyle, do Autogyros count, as here is the recently airworthy C30 and a superbly restored Whirlwind.

There is a 1/72 scale resin/injection moulded kit of the Hispano 1112 K1L, manufactured by a German company called Classic Plane, they also do a Buchon in the same scale. The kit comes with decals fo the film “Stern Von Afika”. There is also a version with Spanish decals.
This is a link to their website.
