A couple of photos of VZ345.
The first was taken in the early 80’s I think whilst still operational with the A&AEE the second was taken at Boscombe Down in 1990 after the non standard repairs were undertaken.

Hairyplane, heres a few photos to give a taste of Reno.
All taken last year.

If you come to Reno you’re not going to want an old, slow Mustang anymore!
Tell that to the Dago Red team!

Hi hairyplane,
I went last year so hopefully it hasn’t changed too much.
You’ll have to move quickly as accomadation gets booked up very quickly, with alot of people repeat booking each year.
I stayed at the Atlantis in Reno and took quite a long cab ride out to the airfield, the Hilton in Reno is where most of the pilots/crew seem to stay as it has some sort of tie in with the sponsorship, it also has a Air racing bar!
When I get home tonight I’ll post some contact details which may be of use.
You must try to get a Pylon pass as this the only way you can really comprehend the speed of the racers.
To get there I went via Phoenix and came home via Vegas with Virgin Airlines.
Be back later

[QUOTE=aerovin]The recent threads about Jeff Hawke brought to mind another individual cut from the same mold, that being Gregory Board. Board is probably best remembered for his role in providing three B-17s for The War Lover in 1961.
Check out Martin Caidins book ‘Everything but the flak’ which tells the story of the ferry flight for the movie. Great book but very difficult to find these days.

Cracking shots Gareth,
Who operates the the Hunter now, the last time I saw it was at Duxford with OFMC.

Greg
I only remember seeing it fly in the overall green colours/yellow cowlings, but I can vaugely recall that it was repainted.

Another of Doug Arnold’s rarely seen aircraft was this P40 N/ N9950, seen here at Biggin during the early 90,s.

… there is certainly room for a chapter entitled – ‘Abandoned B-25’s and spares holdings around the world’. 🙂

I took the following photos at Coventry around 1990, I just could not believe how they had let the B25 NL9494Z deteriorate, after all it was airworthy only a few years earlier as ‘Gorgeous George Ann’. I was told at the time that the collection was under some sort of administration.
I think the WW1 replicas were used in the film Gunbus, the last I heard Peter Smith had these down at Hawkinge. The T6 was a prop from ‘Empire of the Sun’.
A long lost acquaintace of mine used to be one of Hawke’s crew members on the JU 52, I can vaguely remember being told of similar exploits with the JU. From memory, Hawke left that aircraft in a field in Germany after a forced landing or aborted take off?

This shot was taken at Biggin Hill in 1990 I think!
