Re: Cunningham pub croydon at risk
on Purley way another aviation linked pub the Propeller lies burnt out and ready to be pulled down its like history means nothing. [/B][/QUOTE]
As a Croydon resident of many years I have been apalled by the councils total lack of interest in anything relating to our heritage. All there interested in is another stash of Business rates from Lidl’s. The cunningham will no doubt be bulldozed to make way for another bl**dy supermarket. I’m sure this pub used to have the longest continuous bar in Britain!
I can well remember going to Croydon Airport Society meetings in the Propeller, the pub featured superb Oak panelled walls, this historic building should have been protected.
Regarding the fire, or fires as in the case of Brighton’s West Pier, these seem to happen far too often of late. Very handy for the developers though!
I’m just glad I now live in Tandridge councils area.
I saw this Harvard/Zero at Coventry in the late 80’s, I’m sure it was originally owned by Jeff Hawke and appeared in ‘Empire of the Sun as set dressing.’

I know a B25 is not quite a fighter but I’m sure Dizzy Adicot of Aces High fame was a WW2 pilot. I also remember him flying the T33.
And what about the great Ken Wallis, of little Nelly fame.( A strike aircraft of sorts!)

Anyone ever seen the Hispanos in ‘Star of Afrika’ the German film about H J Marselle (sp?) – not Buchon’s but their predacessors.
‘Star of Afrika’ is availiable on video (NTSC format) from the US company ‘Belle & Blade’ in either dubbed or subtitled versions.
The film features the Hispano HA1112k1L with Hispano-Suiza engines.

Totally agree with you Snapper.
What a moment of pure magic when Pete Brothers took the controls of ML407. A superb end to an excellent programme.
