There was an article on the Loch Ness Defiant in a very early copy of Flypast.

The book I vividly remember reading over and over again was Thunder and Lightnings, I now have a copy courtesy of ebay on my shelf.
The combat comics and Victor comics also played there part as did visiting my Aunts who lived near Kenley aerodrome in the early 70’s.

Thanks Guys,
I use a Nikon D300 with 300 F2.8 Nikon Lens plus a 1.4 converter.
All were taken up by the Tank bank and not in the fields across the other side, this one time frowned upon practice seems proliferate the forums these days.

Hi Martin,
A great first outing, but check your White Balance setting as there appears to be a greenish tint to some of the pictures. with my Nikons, I always leave it on the cloudy setting for all outside photos. otherwise keep up the good work.

A few more;

Airart,
Where did you come across the details of the Angels One Five Portuguese Hurricanes? When I was researching the film for an article that appeared in ‘Warbird Digest’ I tried to find out which specific aircraft had been involved with no luck, even Frank Mason the well known Hurricane historian couldn’t find any details of the Portuguese aircraft involved.
Many thanks for the info.

Thanks Nighthawk,

Very sad news indeed.
The former Kenley based 501 Squadron Battle of Britain pilot who famously downed a 109 despite having no ammunition left.
In fact, a recent thread on the forum discussed the recovery of the 109* that Ken brought down. (* Became known as The Reluctant Messerschmitt).
For those unfamiliar with Ken Mackenzie, I can thoroughly recommend his book ‘Hurricane combat’.
RIP Ken.
