I think we have our wires crossed wysiwyg.
I flew back from Larnaca last summer into Newcastle on BY757 – the flight took just under 5 hours. Many flights from Northern England to Cyprus and the Canaries take between 4.5 and 5 hours depending on tail/head winds…
I haven’t said anywhere in my thread that I want less seats or faster aircraft; I don’t know where you have got that from.
I am questionning though whether it would be beneficial to the passengers, and worthwhile for the airlines to introduce PTV’s and improved IFE and UK charter airlines. I certainly would like to see it but would like to hear other people’s opinions.
As for paying extra, I have no intention of saying ‘I’d be willing to pay for it’ as you suggest I might. I don’t pay for PTV’s on long haul flights and have no intention of paying for them on short-haul. You are right, generally, I don’t think the British Public would want it.
So back on topic and to what I was asking:
So will we see the day when PTVs become standard in UK charter airlines? Why are they not standard already? Do you feel the UK charter market warrants improved IFE?
(Sorry if my original post was ‘misleading’ , though I thought it was quite clear. 🙁 )
Also, what happened to the A370?
Beautiful!!
Is it me, or, does anyone else find pictures where aircraft are so low (with buildings in the background) eerily scary?
Beautiful but scary!

I flew on N147US from Washington To Amsterdam in September 1997. Service was below average with a reasonable hot meal but poor ‘breakfast’ (a banana & muffin) Comfort was average, with limited IFE on 1 screen per cabin. Depending upon where you were seated you could have a restricted view.
I guess thats going to be my main problem Paul, IFE. I haven’t flown long-haul that often, but, on all but one occasion I’ve had a PTV which can make a big difference IMO to the journey. I’m really looking forward to my first experience of flying on a DC10 but I’m not expecting to get won over by great entertainment or comfort!
But then, maybe that will be the attraction! 🙂
I would suggest its Airbus.
Just a quick question; is the 7E7 supposed to be replacing the 757 or 767, or is it supposed to be complimentary?
Interesting post – its great to see where everyone else is travelling:
Last month I flew:
LBA-Belfast-IOM with BE (CRJ & 146-2)
IOM – LBA with BA (J41)
Later this year:
MME – AMS (KLM F100)
MAN – CUN (BY 763)
MME – EWR (KLM F100 & NWA DC10-30)
Form what I can gather, the DC10-40’s are just about gone from NW with the -30’s still operating and likely to be doing so for a couple of years or so.
A330’s are joining the fleet, which is always a welcome addition, but it’ll be a sad day when the DC10 leaves NWA for good.:(
Thanks Andrew, Thanks Michael!
I appreciate that – the last site is particularly useful.
Has anyone had a flying experience on a NW DC-10?
RE: America Last Year
Thanks A330crazy.
What ever happened to the wake turbluence theory on the A300?
RE: Pic Of The Day-UA B744
I flew on a UA744 from SFO to LHR in 2000 and this aircraft type was still running the route in 2001. Externally, it is a beautiful aircraft but internally, the 777 beats it. I flew a UA777 into LAX and it was significantly more comfortable than the 744.
RE: Flying to Freeport (Grand Bahama)
As far as I am aware JMC fly out of Gatwick to Freeport and Nassau using their A330 aircraft. The A330 does have PTV’s throughout the aircraft so you should be OK.
BA still do fly to Nassau out of Heathrow and currently use 763s which we discussed in another thread as not having PTVs.
There are also flights to Freeport from Manchester.
RE: Bad Flight?
My worst flight was also from Gerona; on the return leg of a flight to Manchester on a Monarch 757. The Costa Brava was experiencing some very heavy storms that evening and the flight home was awful. I never feel ill travelling but came very close to throwing up. There weren’t a great deal of ‘bumps’; it was more up, down, left, right, manoeuvres (or perceived anyway) and I felt as sick as a dog!
Second worst was an approach into Copenhagen on an SAS F50. The approach was over water in gale force winds (mid-winter) and my little turbo-prop was being thrown all over the place. The plane repeatedly kept dropping and twisting and at times I thought we were just going to get thrown onto the ground. Not very nice.
RE: Scandinavian MD80’s
Thanks Kabir.
RE: Charter Long Haul Services
Any takers on this…….?
RE: US to cut miliatary aid to Taiwan if China Airlines gets 330
I find stories like this quite repulsive! If Airbus have won the order fair and square, then, so be it – thats business.
Its another indication that Boeing are losing their competitive edge as Airbus win more orders. And when Boeing lose, the big boys come in and start the politics – quite honestly its disgusting.
