    Except that he’ll probably be out in half the time anyway won’t he? Sentencing in this country is bizarre, I have to say. The judge hands down a sentence so why in heavens name does it get reduced in almost every case? They might as well hand down half the time in the first place.

    Kev’s earlier post points up the terrible 21st century dilemma. That the availability of drugs and care at ever increasing cost enables all of us to live better and longer thus increasing further the cost to us all to enable us to live better and longer.

    Hands up! I accept my naivete in missing the significance of those four words ” since the general election”. I was more interested in the comment per se.

    I had forgotten that you need to emphasise a political element to much of what you contribute. I was merely posting an interesting comment by a senior medical officer on a pertinent thread. If you deduce from that that that it is the Government’s policies which have suddenly transformed the situation then that is your prerogative.
