My Dutch is no good – any chance of getting a translation ?
Sounds like the remains of two rumored to be in shipping containers in Darwin – Not well publicised here .

Oscar may care to reveal or not which A26 it was back then – I haven’t asked him yet so I don’t know.
If you have a careful look at the Pics I posted you will notice that the aircraft is seen at an airshow at Rutherford NSW in the blue US Scheme before it was painted. The Green Scheme was a beauty and is missed by all who saw her – Bring one back and paint her the same I say!!!

Hi Cees
There are a number of surviving ex-Dutch/RAAF B-25’s still around in Oz according to a book on the Dutch B-25’s. Some recoveries had taken place from remote crash sites.
I regret to say I think a lot of this is wishful thinking – the B25 wreckage I have seen is past redeeming I’m afraid although there is a rumor of two recovered ones in Containers in Darwin but so far it is just a rumor

Hi Oscar
Very interesting because that means it/they were issued with Australian serials and may even have been transfered from RAAF 2 sqn at some stage so it would be good to find out its serial or BuNo as I have all the records here – anybody got any idea which one/s survived ?

Hi Oscar
Yes thats what I have.
It transferred back to NEIAF in 1946 and continued fighting in Indonesia with Mitchells against the rebels, being disbanded finally in 1950 after the armistace was signed in Indonesia having ceased operations in 1949. I wonder if any of the mitchells survived there – very historic aircraft.

Hi
Just to tidy up the details
Australia recieved 50 Mitchells – 25 D models and 25 J models – They served with 2 and 18 Squadron – the first 39 were recieved from the Dutch batch and had Dutch colors and serials. 18 Sqn was a NEI Squadron (hybryd with RAAF majority in it’s personnel, operated alongside 2 Sqn RAAF as part of 79 Wing in the later stages of the War. So therefore only 2 sqn operated as RAAF marked mitchells – There – clear as Mud !!
The Mitchell flying at Legends this year celebrates the colors of the 18 Sqn Machines .

And a few more ……………….
Hi
Excellent day you had here – please post more pics – really enjoyed them

Hi Rob
Yes and they have served as water bombers a lot longer than as military aircraft so this scheme is very appropriate – and quite attractive too I think

Hi Beaufighter VI
The Oz wing is to a superior build standard throughout. Leading edge ribs pressed instead of fabricated, gun bay/fuel tank bay door metal in place of wood, aileron shrouds in metal as opposed to a mix of wood and metal, stringers extended to full span of outer wing, hiduminium 90 degree rivets as opposed to a mix of 120 degree magnesium and hiduminium rivets. Better fixing of underwing removable panels, modified landing lamp bay plus many more practical items.
Yes very comprehensive and interesting answer – You have my dream life – working on / around Beaufighters – perhaps in a couple of years…..
I am seriously hoping that one of the big shops downunder and or some serious money will flow to some Beaufighters – there is no reason why not – the engineering whilst daunting is not insurmountable and they would be the king of warbirds at airshows etc. The fact that Wangarratta have taken on 4 Bostons is a good sign that big projects can happen so who knows. The issue up till now is that with all due respect with the exception of the Duxford project no organisation with the proper resources has taken on a Beau.
The slightly tounge in cheek posts on other threads I have made over the years still have some validity to them I think – If ever there was a type of aircraft suited to a limited production run it is the Beaufighter in my opinion. It would be really great to get a few of them happening in one place and deal with the engineering issues in a concentrated effort.
Just my two bobs worth
Thanks for your post!!
Kindest regards

Scarecrow What’s the status of the Skysport Beaufighter? I looked (rapidly) through the thread, but I didn’t see anything about its status.
Doesn’t HARS have one their restoring–as a composite?
Skysport one is still for sale as far as I know with not much progress on it in a while.
HARS does indeed have a lot of components and is slowly progressing a restoration to fly but it is slow and there are a lot of other projects etc . Don’t hold your breath unless something has rapidly changed lately

JägerMarty It’s a shame the young fella didn’t take the old fella up at the end, but Mrs Grace probably wanted someone with more than 9hrs at the stick, fair enough I spose
I think there would have also been lots of insurance implications even if she had been game for it to have happened

Well
Good luck and I hope it happens
There is a wealth of product already out there and you could use a lot of that to generate content that people haven’t seen – who can afford to buy it all. Once the rush of a new release is over I imagine you can pick up the screening rights for a small amount.
I would also imagine that there could be room for a sort of Forum and news section – Aviation News categories etc – cheap to produce but interesting and perhaps a amature video spot every now and then of interesting places around the world.
Lots of possabilities – Go for it
