Hi Merlin 70
First I will get back to you soon about the instruments – I have to wade my way through several thousand boxes first to get to them.
Second The Duxford photos are the start – more are loadin as I type- and eventually I will be putting up 4000 or so more shots!!! So no it wasn’t just Spits they just happen to be first!!

PS say hello to the family – I had a great time
Hi all
I actually have a serious idea (happens ocassionally)
There is another thread hereabouts about various players around the world using various warbird bits to build desks and such like. These items bring stupid amounts of money. If, as appears likely this poor Vulcan is to meet it’s end why not scrap it “carefully” and utilise what sections as are suitable to construct various trendy furniture and flog it for money to keep some other project in business. I took the keychain idea seriously too but there are lots of things you could do with this and in a sense it would live on as a “distributed ” airframe.
I have just looked up a site that is offering CD/DVD racks made out of F4 wing structure (Complete with fake camo and lots of extra rivets) for $500!!!

Hi RobAnt
I have just sent you a squillion $
Please make sure she is on the flightline for Leg ends 2005 with the Concorde and the pastle pink elephant!!
Seriously I wonder if it would be possible to save this thing given commitment and enough daft Aircraft nuts – anything can be saved if you get enough people involved. Can someone refresh my memory – how many preserved Vulcans? It probably isn’t worth the effort but I sure hope some parts can be used to help others. Anything special about this particular aircraft.

John P
Hi
Yes it is possible to take a Vulcan apart just ask the people who delivered the Brooklands and East Fortune Concords. Real friction cutter artisans those blokes!
Phillip
I understand your argument about preserving lots of a type so some will survive however isn’t the trick to find the BEST homes in the first place (ie prepared for the exercise)

Hi
My two bobs worth is that I like the Canon 300D and 10D but having owned them I have now moved on to a Nikon D70 and am a little happier than I was with the Canons. The reason for swapping was accidential and I already had Nikon lenses but I do prefer the Nikon – it just works a little better and has a more solid build to it.
I bought mine in Singapore and you would probably save the cost of your trip on the Camera price in Orchard road – the warranty is universal and it is brand new stock – I have now taken 5000 shots over the past month and am very happy.

Hi Duxfordhawk.
I pretty much agree with your post, however people who are ill informed often get caught up in the emotion of the moment and don’t necessarily spend their money where they might have if they were aware of all the facts and options open to them.
I think the various museums and groups in any country but in the UK in particular need to think about how they promote their activities to the public and the corporate world and a bit of prioritisation, joint cooperation and marketing would see a world of difference in how things started to happen.
A national campaign to get a Stirling or a Whitney back together may not sound as exciting as getting a Concorde flying but it is in how it is presented and marketed that would make the difference – the money is also a lot less.

Hi
I still question if this is in any way a good idea given that the UK is littered with many signifigcant airframes which need saving not to mention extinct ones which could be brought back. I saw a lot of Concords fly – it was only a year ago they stopped – get over it and lets preserve something else and save those that will be in need of it.
Apply all of this entheuasism to all of your heritage that is slowly rotting into the ground for future generations – just pickle a good Concorde for when it needs to be done later.

Ladies and Gentlemen
Here in Aus before a venture like this (The Concorde not the Rearwin) the organisation would have to prove it’s bona fides before it was able to seek funding from the public – is this the case in blighty – I would seriously like to examine the business case, project plan and prospectus for this venture and who is the financial backer of the venture – I have a few other ideas I would like to send him/her

PS Andy
I tried patriotism once – as you may have observed I still have the limp !!!!

But I’m not British ????????

Hi Boys
Well this has got you all animated hasn’t it.
Mike and Andy I think we should make Melv get the damn Concorde flying after the pensioner Rearwin takes to the air !!
Pity the same effort as being wasted on this scam isn’t applied to Stirling/ Hampden / Hermes etc
Building up the publics expectations is easy – satisfying them is another. I have a lot of time for Branson (Come to think of it he looks a little too much like Melv’s long lost twin brother) and if he couldn.t keep it flying I think the writing was on the wall. I just wouldn’t want to be running the press conference when this hits the wall.

Hi Wrenchbender – wrong Dave
This seems to have jumped a page and aeveral dozen posts , it relates to Dave Homewoods coments of New Zealand and JKDs reply. I was making the point that James is coming back to Aus to live and that Dave and I will have to re indoctrinate him to his homeland and neighbours etc – sorry for the confusion – don’t know why it moved so far.

Hi all
So OK yes yes I understand all of this thread but what I want to know is “Will it be flying at Legends and can we make sure he paints it how WE want?”(Whatever it is and whoever owns it.

Dave
As a fellow antipodean I have to remind you that JKD has been AWOL from Aus without a note for 30+ years and that he has “Been recalled for diplomatic discussions” as they say in diplomatic circles ie He is comming “home” and it is up to all of us to put him through appropriate retraining and cultural awareness instruction. This reindoctrination will naturally include sessions in Kiwi land to reintroduce him to the neighbours and aquaint himself with our shared cultural heritage (ie slagging each other off)

Hi Peter
I guess I am proposing using warehouse space somewhere – naturally this will proclude display etc but at least a pickled aircraft is a saved aircraft and although not free it is cheaper than having to repair damage later or worse still – scrapping rare aircraft ……………..
I take the earlier point abouth the Lanc and Solent in NZ but despite appearances they weren’t as bad as the Vulcans etc in the UK which have really started to go down hill lately and they were very rare and warranted some priority. If the Newark Hastings gets any worse perhaps should get a holiday in NZ !!!! seeing as they “know the way” with far gone mamoth airframes in need of TLC
Hi
Setter calling forum — any pics — I say again ANY PICS!!!! over !!!!
