The dates refer to the ‘last noted date’ which means the last time we had a report of their continued existance at this location.
The photo’s are a bit older, XL578’s was taken after a Kemble open day in in 2006 (by me). The one of XX466 provided by an enthusiast at Guernsey, taken a couple of years ago IIRC.

Dusting off an old Air Britain publication from 1973 😮
Looks like they had Warwick I, III’s 1943/44 and Dakota III, IV 1944/46
Formed at WZ 02/09/1943 as a transport unit. Flew regularly to Gibraltar with the Warwick’s until April 1944, when they converted to Dakota’s.
Looks like it was then runs into Europe post D-Day and then into the Middle East.
Squadron was renumbered to 238 Sqn 01/12/1946
Some further info:
Squadron code was apparently ‘8P’
From the Putnams ‘ Vickers Aircraft’ the following on the Warwicks is given.:
525 Sqn was the recipient of some the ex BOAC civilianised C mkI’s these were in the serial range BV243-256 (formerly G-AGEX – G-AGFK inclusive)
They also received the following C mkIII’s HG219, 220, 223, 224, 226 -233

I would vote for Cosford to join their collection of Meteors.
I quite agree given its the last of the type, (the Bentwaters one is being returned to stock F8 condition) it would be most appropriate as part of the RAFM collection.
However does anyone think they have the foresight or inclination to be that pro-active, I guess if they had considered it already it would not be up for disposal, or they have no interest…
Given the significant number of U16’s and U21’s consumed (not to mention converted F4’s), its a subtype which would make a unique addition to a National collection.
Nothing on e-disposals yet, but still dissapointing as I thought it was going to FAST at Farnborough.
One can only hope in one way it has a high reserve to prevent any scrapman buying it. Although this kind of money will also put off virtually all the privately funded museums as well.
Quite a significant aeroplane, being an AWA built F8 with a period spent on ‘active duty’ during the Korean war with the RAAF IIRC.
Shouldn’t the 21st edition be out now/soon?
Roger Smith.
The updates / proof reading had to be done and back to Ken by the 1st April, which was somewhat later than anticipated. I expect it will be out sometime in May like edition 20.
Tom,
I think you may have just sealed the decision, but for longer than 5 days this time !
Canada 2009 it is !
All the best
I went to Canada in 2006 for a whistle stop 5 days on the ‘East Coast’ – well Ontario province. It was fantastic and I soo want to go back !
Tom H your post is just adding fuel to the fire for a return in 2009 !
Wishing I was there now

Cees, there was a report on this NZ based forum:
About this aircraft, it was in Jan 2007 and included some pictures of the still very substantial remains. The forum is run by Dave Homewood who frequents the ‘Plane talk’ forum.
If you register with the NZ forum and use the search function I’m sure you can find it.

Possible ID I have is VZ568 coded ‘C’ with 63 Sqn until 1955 when it became 7261M with 4STT at St Athan, again not a million miles from Sennybridge.
Anyone got a copy of the book and put us out of our misery ?
Hunter FGA.9 XF442 was one of the ex RAF Hunters, supplied to Chile in late 82 early 83 from memory, as a thank you for services rendered for the Falklands. And at least one, possibly this one crashed while in service with the FACh.
From UKSerials.com:
XF442 Hunter FGA9 d/d 1957, d/d 24/04/1982 to FACh as J-742, w/o 20/05/1982
Soloman Recoveries
An interesting find whilst browsing the web this morning:
Oh yes, the SHAR is still there, but difficult to obtain a decent photo of it though, could not tell you what the serial number is but will check next time I am down there.
Unless they have acquired another one, it should be the remains of ZH807, the Cockpit of which is with a collector on the Isle of White.
The Canberra is WH887, although the chances of selling it on given it present condition is somewhat ‘limited’ I’d think. Although the New website for GJD no longer lists it for sale so maybe it destined for the bin.
As an aside they now have lots of pictures from the Soloman islands on their site…

Im surprised about the Coventry Voodoo cockpit, that must be very deriable amongst the UK collectors.
There are ‘plans’ for the Coventry Voodoo, now that the fire service have no further use for it.
I’ve been working in the background to have it placed in a far more appropriate place, its just been a frustratingly long time to get both parties to close the agreement.
Can’t say more as I’m not an official MAM representative, but I’ll carry on nagging Barry all the same 😀
