Thorpe park DH2
An update to the list on the previous link
Airco DH2 BAPC-112/”5694″.Now at Museum of Army Flying,Middle Wallop,Hants.
This left there a number of years ago, after being retrieved from a skip on the base. The last time I saw it was approx 18 months ago, when it was being slowly restored by its owner, based near Rugby.
HTH
Aerospace Logistics – Charlwood
This is the name of the company who owns all the Sea Harriers etc at Charlwood, They appear to be a general spares dealer / handler and probably bought them with the view to selling them on at a profit. Most were spares source at St Athan before disposal so are fairly stripped, although I recall one has moved on to a new owner.
I’m not aware of any ‘direct’ link with Gatwick Museum per say, although the extremely battered Jaguar at Charlwood museum either came from here or another nearby yard at Faygate, IIRC.
Great, any idea where it was filmed, looks a nice spot.
Its Eggesford in Devon, loverly little grass strip and a positive Austerfest. Visited there a couple of weekends ago, very friendly people who love to talk ‘Auster’
I’m sure any location fee’s received will be put to good use on their current restorations !
JP5 Inst panels – What colour grey?
Using the vast font of knowledge amongst the forumites, can anybody tell what the BS spec is for the grey used on Jet Provost 5 panels (and indeed interior)
I’ve looked through the AP’s I have and done some ‘googling’ but seem unable to find it.
The collection of panels I have are from a variety of sources are all different shades so some guidance would be welcomed.
Offers?
Thanks
Several flights in Air Atlantique’s Dakota’s and Rapides.
Flying in the Prentice from Halfpenny Green last year.
Flying in a Chippy at the 50th anniversary event at Downsview Canada.
All memorable, but the best was flying in an ex SAAF Havard from Swartkop Museum this year….
Must confess I too looked at the pictures and thought – why bother. However having seen the efforts of a number of Forumites (WV838, QA-12 et al) I would say nothing is impossible and if its the only way for an individual to aquire something like that, then I say good luck !
Consideration is being given to loaning out our T-33 for display for a period of four years while work concentrates on projects ahead of it in the queue. The only stipulations are that it must remain in the country, be placed under cover and be made available for regular inspection.
If any museums are interested please contact me in the first istance.
Thanks,
George
Unless this is one which is entirely privately owned, this will be a USAFM Museum loan aircraft and as such will have a loan agreement between yourselves and Dayton. I’m not aware of the ability to cross-loan these aircraft to other organisations, in which case the USAFM may decide you are indicating you no longer are interested in the airframe. I’m sure this is not the case but be aware you may unwhitingly put the airframe at danger of disposal from under you.
Similar airframes from Wales and more recently Hemswell and Lashenden have been scrapped as the USAFM are no longer interested interested in placing them with other organisations. The Bentwaters Cold War museum has been unsuccessfully lobbying for some time now to aquire a suitable airframe via this route with no success as in the post 9/11 era the American authorities are less than enamoured in placing ‘War Material’ in the hands of private individuals/organisations outside the continental USA.
Please do not take any of this as a criticism, just a ‘heads up’ about how you should approach the situation.
Well, just got back from the brunty area and I have to say FANTASTIC EFFORT GUYS!!!
It was truly one of those special moments to see and remember for the future, at one time I never thought I,d see a Vulcan fly again, to do so was magic.
Here’s to the future – jellied eels anyone ????:diablo:
TG536 wing(s)
A few years ago they were still outside at Elvington (the original outer wings of TG536 that is)
Cees
At least one has now been painted up and put on display in a Queen Mary trailer.
Tried clicking onto your link but cant get it to work?
Peter, try the following:
After entering the site click on ‘Hitchin Tornado’ from the menu on the LH side.
Believe the site has seen significant traffic over the past day or so – hence it may be slow to respond.
Williamsons & Sons Hitchin – Oct 2007
In an era when mass scrappings are near unheard of here’s some soon to be extinct Tornado F3’s taken this week !
Somehow the pictures remind me of those earlier evocative pictures posted by mark 12 and others, when all the scrapyards were full of RAF aircraft.

All are ex St Athan and flew back to the UK in 2004 after use by the Italian Air Force. Nice to see our tax monies used to their full value……
RH746
Here’s the picture we have on our site of the Kemble Brigand. As already said ‘not a pretty site’ but its recovery is a story in itself !
there is one brigand left im sure, at least a fuselage is left ive seen it somewhere 🙂
RH746, presently with the Bristol Aero Collection at Kemble.
WK800 conducted its last flight into Boscombe Down, since which I assume its gone into storage to act as a spares source for the Martin Baker examples?
I had seen a report which suggested it may end up at the FAST museum at some point.
WV381 Public Debut
The Kemble open day held yesterday (Sunday 9th) saw the first ‘public showing of Daves cockpit. I for one was very impressed with the progress made in a short time and with it now resplendant with a seat and canopy, amongst the many additions and repairs.
It shows whats possible with what many would consider a ‘basket case’ with some effort and enthusiasm.
Below is a picture as it was seen yesterday, all I can say is well done Dave !
