I’d like to install the EJ200/230 into the Gripen airframe, maybe add some TVC, and replace the PS-05/A with NORA. 🙂

When did the Grippen achieved A 108:0 kill ratio???? Are you sure that you had the conversation with a Grippen pilot? Sounds more like a Saab marketing guy :p

As for international exercises, the Grippen faced Finnish F 18 and Norwegians F 16 MLU. Both performd bettre than the Grippens… :diablo:

Anyway, comparing the Grippen with the F 22 is hilarious.

I’m not comparing the Gripen to the F-22 in that sense.

And for your information the Gripen walked all over the F-16’s and F-18’s. The F-18’s didn’t win a single encounter.

Here are some excerpts from Jane’s weekly defence magazine, February issue no 029.

During ACM the gripen outperformed the F-16’s and the F-18’s with BVR and WVR engagements. In fact, 1 gripen took out 4 F-18’s before the pilots even knew the gripen was in the area…

The gripen’s small body and consequent agility proved a great advantage during aerial dogfights. Despite a lowered thrust to weight ratio, with the aid of the gripen’s superior flight computers it was able to get behind the
    F-16 everytime.Even though both aircraft could sustain 9g +

Hmm, that’s very similar to the Gripens kill/loss ratio in international excercises, WVR and BVR. 😀 I don’t have any real numbers, but I’ve spoken to alot of Gripen pilots and from what they’ve told me I don’t think I’m too far off.

IIRC the X-31 managed similar kill ratios against Hornets and Falcons in dogfights?

Excellent shots Papa Lima! It was a great day! Although I have 1:st degree burns on my arms, legs and face! But I’ll live through it! 😀

I found it difficult to get good shots with all the heat blur, and also the sun shining on the wrong side of the runway!

But it was a good airshow! 🙂

The 50 year old J35 Draken could do the Cobra manouver. I bet there’s alot of fighters that can do the cobra manouver. If they can perform them safely enough at airshows is a different matter.

Internal fuel capacity for the Gripen is ~3000 liters, external capacity ~3500 liters. Ferry range with external tanks 3500km.

You really do have to wonder if there are practical reasons for the early retirement of the Gripen A/B?

There are none. V and Mp’s goal is to erase everything military. It’s that simple. And they have soon succeeded. For some reason they think that weapons is the cause for all wars, and not mankind.

I agree. It is unlikely that the planes in question will be “scrapped.”

Perhaps the real intention is to sell the Gripens in question to Saab or BAE Systems for “scrap value?”

Think again, they will be scrapped, be sure. We’re dealing with Swedish leftwinged politics here. The past have shown that this is for real. When we upgraded our JA37’s to D standard the politicians all of a sudden decided to scrap the Viggen system. Newly modified Viggens that costed Billions to upgrade didn’t even make it out to the squadrons, they went straight to the scrap heap.

There will be more Gripens scrapped in the near future, you can count on it. The Social democratic partie are so desperate to remain in power that they let the left wing parties (Mp and V) destroy our defences. These two parties have 8% of the swedish votes, yet they make sure that 100% of the Swedish people in the end will become totally defenceless. 10 years ago, Sweden could field 750.000 soldiers, today, only 9500!

    Where’s the democracy I wonder?

Give it another year, and even the C/D version will be given away for free. 😡

Btw, even the A/B Gripens are still one of the most advanced mulitrole fighters today. They have no problems taking on F-16’s and F/A-18’s, as excercises have shown.

So basically you’re judging the professionalism of the US military by the behavior of a few? Nice.

    Sigh. Whatever, man.
