Just to remind our American chums, who’s language they speak? I think we won 😉

In the words of Professor Elemental, we’re so very, very sorry about Piers Morgan

True enough, I did hear somewhere that more Canberra cres were killed practicing asymmetric handling than in actual asymmetric incidents

Also salty old sea-dogs at the Admiralty generally didn’t hold a lot of truck with this new fangled ‘air power’ fad which would quickly go out of fashion – far better to spend the Navy budget on ships – it’s not as if an aeroplane would ever be able to sink a ship, and anyway the RAF were clearly no gentlemen. (there then follows 10 hours of rambling on about tradition, Nelson etc) 😉

What annoys me about this kind of lazy journalism is that they seem to take liberties with aviation stories that they wouldn’t dare to take with other subjects.

I’m not sure that’s necessarily true, we know this story stinks because of our interest but might not be able to do the same when they pontificate on other issues without that specialist knowledge. During GW II I was working int and knew just how bad the general standard of reporting was, even with open and honest press briefings. I guess either they haven’t got the time or inclination to do accurate reporting, or possibly worse were too busy following their own agendas. Long and the short of it is – journalists (with a few honorable exceptions) are clueless sensationalists with no consequences or responsibility for accuracy or the effects of their shoddy work.

The Royal Navy were not trigger happy. They would fire on any aircraft that approached them in a menacing fashion

In other words ‘can’t be arsed to do aircraft rec – shoot at it anyway’

    some things never change!

Wonder if your father would have been happy to be attacked by Beaufighters because ‘the unidentified ship approached in a menacing fashion’

Still looks like what might result from a Bf 110 and a Bf 109 being left alone in a hangar on their own on a hot summer night……. 🙂

Or it might have been so buggy that it killed more Japanese aircrew than the Allied pilots flying P51Ks P-80s, Meteors, Hornets etc

Actually when the KGB archives were opened in the 1990s their espionage efforts against Concorde were there for all to see, yes, they did copy or at least ‘take inspiration’ from a good slice of BAC project work…..like it or not, it’s a fact

When I started as a baby scopie back in 1983 we had an ARC52/PTR175 set up in the ops room at Neatishead…..last ditch A/G coms…..didn’t know it had been snagged from a Javelin! Mind you our Dialect kit was supposed to have come from a V-Bomber.
