Some kind of iffy yellow paste used on leading edges on Wimpys?
House-bricks used to get formal military funerals too, if you just bury what’s left of a pilot that’s gone in at 300kts the coffin won’t sit right.
Sage, Dill and Constable Knapwood came from the Herbs…… 😉

The Shack T4 on 8 Sqn was called Zebedee because of it’s bouncy landings – or so the legend goes……
I think the star shape was used much like the fighter arrow head on pre-war aircraft (Spitfire 1 at Hendon for example)
I’ll attach a photo when I get a chance

I think the point is, as others have said, that if we know in our area of interest that the reporting is factually wrong, or just plain made-up due to lack of specialist knowledge, ignorance or to serve an end what are the chances that the press take this cavalier approach to all their stories – including the really big and important stuff?
When I was in the mob doing int stuff I would get the unclass brief from Centcom and do a compare and contrast with the ‘quality’ newspapers – you’d think they were reporting on two different wars – and one of them was Vietnam II. Before anyone suggests Centcom were pushing out propaganda they weren’t, just reporting the facts as they were known and issuing updates and corrections where necessary – something the journos seem unable to do without court orders
French efforts in the Berlin Airlift?
Looking good Galcom, keep up the good work!
Of course the airfield is historic 😮
Thanks, always happy to see our chums from the WarPac and PVO
“Scottow Enterprise Park” – words fail me
‘Fat Albert’
The 1312 Flt Herks in the Falklands post-war were called ‘Alberts’, their bar was called ‘The Queen Vic’ (yes, on ‘Albert Square’)
I’ve seen the TriStar referred to in the RAF as the “Timmy” Anyone know why, please?
Dunno, but the tankers were called ‘Tommies’
As we’ve just discovered (again) we’re short of ASuW capability perhaps repatriate the Shacks? 2.5 Shacks there, 1 at IWM, one at St Mawgan, 1 in Manchester, 1 at Newark……..any more for any more? Oooh that SAAF one in the middle of nowhere…..
And that is a fine example of a good CO in action – how I miss that kind of leadership
You can over-doo this re-enactment malarkey…..
