and what about Wittering, that was a 12 Group airfield during the Battle wasn’t it…..and weren’t those Harrier Sqn.’s in the BofB…..????
Only 20sqn left at Wittering these days. Nos 1, 3, and 4sqn are now at Cottesmore.
I don’t think 20sqn were a fighter sqn during the battle (though I could be wrong).
I think Wittering had 266sqn with Spitfire IIs during late 1940, including P7350 which is now with the BBMF.

Errr.
Yes.
Ooops.
Sorry.
Willow 😮
Thanks for that. Must have been asleep!!!!
Willow
Oooo!! Which ones gone to Flixton?
Great news!! At least some will be saved. I was afraid of them vanishing without anybody noticing. Newark is an excelent home for retired aeroplanes!!
What happened to all the old FRS1 noses? It would be nice to refit one as the FRS1 was a much prettier aeroplane than the FA2.

Over the years that I have been visiting this forum, I have learned many, many things and my opinions and attitudes to the warbird movement as a whole have changed considerably.
This is largely due to the likes of WarbirdUK and Yak11Fan (and many others) who are actually involved in keeping historic aeroplanes in the air. Without them this forum would, I think, lose it’s way. It is people like this that keep us pointing in the right direction.
While everybody is entitled to their opinion, I think ‘considered opinions’ would be more appropriate.
I think this sums it up…..
1. There is always somebody out there who knows more than you do
2. Only by listening to them can you hope to learn yourself
3. Envy of their postion/abilities should inspire you to achieve…..
…..not to attack

(I hope the above makes sense  )
I suppose we could always spruce up ML796, give her a bit of TLC, operate her from Grafham Water and have our own Southern Section MR/SAR 🙂
At least the Bomb doors work!! (well, they did a couple of years ago) 🙂
Is Coltishall the last 11 Group Battle of Britain fighter station still under RAF control? (I’m not sure about Northolt)

I think RAF Henlow used to have an F.1 as a gate guard.
They still do, I saw it last week. I think it’s WT612 (memory not what it used to be!!).
It might have been recently resprayed as the paintwork looks to be in really excelent condition. It is in an early RAF scheme but without squadron markings. Sadly, it is too close to the fence to photograph but at least it’s being well looked after.

I’ve got a couple of her arriving on Thursday. It’s a bit grey (the weather as well as the VC10!!) but I’ll try to post them later on, or possibly tomorrow if I don’t get a chance tonight

They all took off from Stansted, flew over Duxford, then headed round to Heathrow. The Singapore Airlines Boeing747 flew over Audley End instead of Duxford.
The comment at the time was
‘If he can’t find Duxford from Stansted, how’s he going to find Singapore from Heathrow?’
As for the B52, I was at Farnborough yesterday and we did wonder what kind of impression the US department of Defense was trying to create!!
Doesn’t say much for bombing accuracy does it!!
Willow
Yup! Heard that Italian F-104s have cancelled and Typhoon cancelled!
Does that mean that 17sqn Typhoons ‘AA’ and ‘AC’ that arrived yesterday morning have gone home again then??

This year, for the first time, I stopped complaining about the guys (and gals) in period dress and started doing what you’ve done and use them to good effect in my photographs. It’s quite fun, actually, and can be really effective as you’ve just proved.
Thanks
Willow
The Gazelle IS a demobbed one. It’s civil registration is G-BZYD. It was previously XZ329 with the AAC.
I didn’t realise any Army AH1s had been sold off but clearly they have.
Septic, many thanks for the Nord3400 photo. Very nice. Quite a rarity in UK skies, I believe.

P.S. I believe the Beaver currently flies as PH-DHC and is ex US Army 55-4585 in addition to being ex S-9 with the Dutch.
Animals know best don’t they !!
There is something about canine saliva that does have healing powers (yes really!!) so animals really do know best 😎
Seriously, glad you’re OK mate 🙂 🙂 🙂
Willow
