    LesB,

while I agree with your sentiments, I have to disagree about the Hawk. 30 years old the airframe design may be (the F16 isn’t far off that either) but the Hawk is still winning orders worldwide, so the competition can’t be up to much either. The only other option for the RAF was the MB346 (Yak130) which was only an option because it was cheap anyway.

Hawk has recently been sold to Canada and Austrailia, and even the US Navy use a version of it, so it can’t be that bad can it.

Mind you, as you say, the build will probably overrun on time and budget and then half the systems wont work:(

    Now who’s being synical!!

Rant fully justified in my book, but surely it’s a replica isn’t it? Look at the angle of the wing against the fuselage and the rake of the undercarriage. If it’s an original, then it has severe problems.

This would also explain the lack of serial number.

I know they have an original there, but I would assume that it is kept indoors. This is more likely a gate guard or crowd puller.

Of course, I could be totally wrong again

    What excelent work! It’s fantastic.

As a modeller I am now inspired, and will be dragging the old Airfix offering out of the loft tonight (although with only 2 1/2 weeks till the wedding I’m not actually going to build it of course!).

Good shots as well, British Canuck. Thanks very much for posting them.

Yes, and as the smaller Airbus aircraft are all built in Germany, it may well resemble a Bf109.

In which case, we may have accidentally solved the mystery which created this thread in the first place:D 😀

    Yak11fan,
do you know if many were completed? Do you know of any on display in the UK anywhere?

What’s Janies sirname. If it starts with an ‘R’ then we could be onto something.

    Maybe Janies been shot?

Wasn’t Yak11fan claiming to have ‘shot’ Janie on a previous thread?

Yes, the Harriers are the ones on the civil register. I’ve never heard of the TDL Spitfire replicas. Where/are they built to original spec’ in aluminium? If so, then that’s probably what it is.

    Daz,

I think you’ve got a good point there. I agree with what you’ve said. That makes it quite acceptable.

I also agree about Caroline Grace. Very brave, what better tribute to Nick could there be than his Spitfire.

Does anyone else feel that there is something slightly immoral in rebuilding an aeroplane that has been in a recent fatal crash?

It just doesn’t feel right to me.

    DOUGHNUT,

the earwigs have gone, I’m afraid. The bl**dy cat has eaten them. The loft insulation is partly on the move as well, although I’m sure at too small a scale to bother you.

Ebay is a nice idea, but as I can only log on at work, and then not that often, it would be a bit tricky to organise.

    Thanks anyway
