Does anybody who uses this forum ever do any work?

It takes half the day just to catch up!!

Cornflakes were rhetorical. See Droptank (mondays P51 thread) for details.

Actually the RAF is a bit short of Hawks at the moment.

Can they use an Alpha Jet instead. if it’s in Red Arrows colours, 90% of visitors will never know

Surely the most appropriate thing to make out of plastic and put on a stick at Duxfords gate would be a Battle of Britain Spitfire.

It is a British airfield after all. Sometimes people get so wrapped up in the 78thFG thing that they forget that Duxford is in England and was a fighter station during the Battle (that’s 3 years before the US turned up).

Can someone elighten me as to which Lysander this is, who now owns it, and why they didn’t just buy the example that was sold by ARCo a couple of years ago?

P.S. your bickering is most entertaining, I nearly spilt my cornflakes!!

What’s wrong with the Sally B supporters club?

At least they don’t intend selling off the aircraft just because something else comes along, like that other bunch do.

Thanks Droptank. Some of these ‘quiet’ restorations seem to vanish sometimes. The phrase ‘restoration is continuing off site’ actually tells us nothing at all. I’m really looking forward to seeing a Sea Gladiator vs CR42 dogfight. Should be real fun.

    Bentwingbomber,

I notice that the TFC website doesn’t mention the Ki43, P38, or the Mosquito.
Sites like that take a lot of maintaining (I would imagine) and are not always bang up to date with all the latest news.
If you have any info on anything that’s being asked, come forward and tell, we’d like to know, that’s why we ask!

And I still say that the Dragonfly is the most beautiful aeroplane of all time (esp. that one).

Isn’t this a genuine 78FG aircraft? Hopefully it is now being returned to it’s own original scheme.

As this aircraft was originally restored in Israel, I hope it’s got all the right paperwork, otherwise the CAA will never let it fly. Or has it got a ticket already?
If it is allowed to fly, we could have 3xP51s and a P47 all in 78FG colour schemes – nice:)

Yak11, is that the Hurricane IV? If so have you any idea on the intended colour scheme?

If the La9 isn’t here by now then it is surely unlikely to be flying at Legends which will be a shame as it’s about the only new thing on the list (although I havent seen the Firefly since it’s rebuild). Why did the Chinese get upset?

The Hastings was restored by Eddie West before he started on the Lancaster. Such a shame that it’s outdoors but hopefully it’ll fit in the extended ‘SuperHangar’ when that’s complete (as long as they don’t try to hang it up!)

Actually, we always though that the Sunderland would look good hanging up. Would make further restoration work a bit tricky though!!

    Thanks Moggy

Droptank, you have to realise that many of the people using this forum are actively involved in Historic aviation (that’s why it works so well) and that the person you have desribed could either be using this site themselves, or could be known to someone that is (and no, before you ask, I wasn’t at Duxford yesterday).

P.S. It was Weetabix actually, I keep getting them stuck in the toaster!

I know this is getting into AFM territory, but I’m still amazed that the 2seat variant wasn’t produced in larger numbers.

Maybe we’d have more tanks left if it had been.

You’d moan a lot louder if he just told you to ‘f-off and mind your own business’!!

Volunteers do this sort of work because they’re interested themselves. Most visitors are interested as well.

Is it a genuine Duxford based scheme, or didn’t you listen that long?
