Won’t this be the DDA aircraft from Schipol? I think it flys as PH-AJU but is actually N39165.

There’s a perfectly good Vulcan on display at Hendon, that type saw less action than the Lincoln. Why do we need another?

I forgot, Yeovilton has one of the first FG1s.
(just before someone reminded me)

This is a bit ridiculous isn’t it. The RAF is made to scrap all of it’s Phantoms, even those on permanent static display.
Meanwhile, the USAF and US Navy have nearly 700 Phantoms just sitting at AMARC in Arizona waiting their turn to fly again. Some of them could even be sold on and exported to foreign arms.
If overall numbers are the problem why don’t they just bin a few more RF4Cs or F4Ss from AMARC, and let us keep our (now getting quite rare) FGR2s.
Does anyone know how many FGR2s and FG1 are actually complete now (nose sections don’t count) ?
The only 2 I know of on permanent display in museums are at Hendon and Duxford.
Strangely, East Fortune has an F4N (ex US Navy). Surely it would be more appropriate for this Scottish Museum to have one of the FG1s that 43sqn and 111sqn flew from Leuchars for many years.

Don’t bet on it!!
Sorry about that. Next time I’ll actually read the instructions before playing!
I usually only read the instructions when it’s all going wrong!
Willow.
Sorry Moggy.
Now fully edited.
Just thought it was a bit of fun. Who’s saying I was right anyway!!
Willow.
Apparantly Dulux do a very good ‘Duck egg blue’ although in the Homebase own range its called ‘Sky’!

I’m OK except for 3, 20, and 22. It could even be the same aeroplane.
I’ll no doubt be kicking myself when I find out!
Any ideas?

I’ve joined this a bit late, but I am appalled by the state of affairs with the Lincoln. As has been mentioned in another thread, the Comet 4 at Bruntingthorpe had an export ban slapped on it so somebody in office must be taking an interest in historic British aviation. Why hasn’t the same body taken control of this situation.
There must be a ‘big’ list of historic aircraft in the UK.
What about the BAPC? Do they still exist? Instead of issuing ID numbers to replicas, why aren’t they involved in a ‘real’ situation?
In many ways it would be better to restore the Lincoln than another Lanc as it is so much rarer. I do realise however that the Lanc is of much greater historical importance.
Is there any commonality between the Lincoln and Shackelton? I know Shacks are rare, but it would be worth losing one if it would save the Lincoln.

Hey, it could even look like a disquised missile launcher to anyone warped enough (although thinking about it that’s probably just me!)as it is angled upwards.
Seriously, the problem now is that it will probably get bulldozed in the process of rebuilding the airport.

It’s all very well to suggest selling the RAF Museums current Mustang, but it must be remembered that it was swapped with a very complete (airworthy?) Spitfire XVI. I believe the swap was done with The San Diego Museum.
Whatever they sell the Mustang for now is effectively what they have got for a fully restored Spitfire XVI.
Not impressed.

What a remarkable survivor! If the yanks don’t use it for target practice (or assume it isnt some kind of submarine in disguise and blow it up anyway), it would make a fascinating exhibit for any museum (IWM Duxford take note – it HAS been involved in a war).

That ‘famous preson from New Zealand’ happens to be one of the most famous of Churchills ‘Few’.
That said, I agree that the money would be better spent elsewhere.
Just a small point, what does the Mustang, fine aeroplane that it is, have to do with the RAF. I know they escorted RAF bombers, but should it really be on a rotating wotsit instead of a Spitfire, which really should be pride of place.

They could also buy a lot of medals with £1.5m

As they’ve only just got the place open it would be a shame to remove 2 star exhibits just so we selfish few can see them running twice a year. This sort of event is well catered for at Bruntingthorpe.
Let them keep them, and may the Aeropark be open for many long happy years.

P.S. I am in full support of this collection even though when I took a day off to visit it last year it was shut!! Very frustrating as it was a lovely sunny day! Never mind.
