Good for you. You won’t regret it.
Hopefully you can get on the Victor but don’t be dissapointed if you can’t, you can always change to it later when/if it becomes a full project.

Victor1,
in the old days (damn do I feel old now!) the best way of helping at Duxford was to join the Duxford Avaition Society as a working volunteer. You could be put onto the project of your choice under the guidance of a Professional IWM Technician. I am not sure if this still happens. I know that DAS is still crying out for volunteer help, but I’m not sure if the Victor is currently a project with a crew allocated. It used to have one of the best DAS crews of all, led if I remember correctly, by Roger Brooks. Enthusiastic and hardworking, not just looking good on a Sunday, but actually achieving things this crew looked after the Victor and Vulcan. But I think that when the Victor was repainted (badly!) and left outside the crew had no opportunity to carry out further work.
With the onset of the new ‘Super Super Hangar’ which will see the Victor back indoors, a restoration will hopefully take place.
Contact DAS and give it a try. I started there when I was 12 and still go now (although not as often as I’d like). I’ts good fun, you learn a lot, make a lot of friends, feel like your really helping, and you can even grab a career in aircraft restoration out of it if you play your cards right.
While my own experience is with Duxford, if you have museum more local to yourself give them a go. They may not have the particular type that you wish to work on, but it doesn’t take long to become attached to any aircraft once you’ve spent a bit of time crawling around it.

At the moment, Duxfords Vulcan is probably in better condition than the meccano kit at Bruntingthorpe anyway!!
I know I’ve attacked Duxford in the past, but at least they don’t start something unless they can finish it!

Is this Mustang currently airworthy in the US then. If so, why is it going on display at Hendon? What’s wrong with the existing Mustang at Hendon (other than the colour scheme)?
I agree with DOUGHNUT. Tell us the whole story.
What possible usable parts are there from PL983. It just makes a mockery of the whole thing. Why not just build completely from scratch using ‘blackout block’ serials and save the heartache of a ‘killer’ aircraft.

This whole Vulcan thing is getting out of hand. It was a great idea but unless an enthusiastic millionaire appears, it’s never going to happen. As I’ve said before, the money would be better spent restoring something like the ex Southend Lincoln to static condition instead of letting it rot.
Even within Bruntingthorpe, the money could be used to build a hangar for the exhibits there, or be put towards flying something more feasible like the Comet.
I always enjoyed Vulcan displays in the past and I like to remain optimistic if I can, but I repeat, THIS IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.
Nice piccie though.

An imaginery invasion of an imaginery country whose air force consists of 6 or so Hunters. This will be going on throughout the day, with regular ‘as it happens’ updates. Also with battle sequences as RIAT this year will also include the equivalent of the old Royal Tournament. The static display will include period costumes and vehicles (more clutter to the photographers delight!!).
There also seems to have been very little comment about actual aircraft.
Given last years show, together with perenial problems like the infernal Blue Cones, and and you see why I am not totally enthralled by the thought of this event.
And thats before you mention the words ‘security’ and ‘Traffic’.
Willow
I imagine that RIAT at Fairford will vanish as well. Mind you, after last year, and with some of the rubbbish they have planned for this year, that might not be such a bad thing!!
Willow
I did say ‘almost’. I got a shot from the other side which was ‘almost’ clear of the usual clutter that they insist in dumping in front of museum aircraft.
Nice to see the the original Indian scheme. I guess it wasn’t ‘exciting’ enough.
Willow
Makes sense doesn’t it. Thanks very much for that.

What a nightmare (the Forum, not the holiday!) but we got there in the end!
Good to be back (on the Forum)

How about a ‘Tora Tora Tora’ set piece.
Real Zeros (about 40) together with Kates and Vals, attacking and sinking battleships and cruisers. You could do all this alongside Docklands Airport in London. Plenty of water to sink ships in, and a nice runway for the exploding P40s (but with at least 2 getting up and in the action) followed by the B17 one wheeled landing for real and a couple of Catalinas for good measure.
Right in the middle of London, it should be really popular!!
My god….
It worked.
RE: Forum upgrade
Hello everyone.
I’m on holiday in the states from tomorrow until March 3rd.
In case I can’t find you again after you’ve moved, I’d just like to say thanks, it’s been fun.
‘So long, and thanks for all the fish’

RE: Allied ‘Mistel’ composites
Wasn’t there a plan to put 3 Gnats under a Vulcan as escort fighters?
The same could have been done with one Gnat to guide a Vulcan towards it’s target.
On a sillier note, what about a Walrus on top of a Sunderland!

RE: Fire at Felthorpe Flying Club
Very sad news.
ITN are reporting 9 aircraft destroyed with seven being vintage.
They also report it being arson.
No doubt it’s a bunch of kids with no respect for anyone or anything, all of whome are probably to young to be prosecuted.
