, a Beech C-45 in “Octopussy”.

Wasn’t this the one that ended up at Lelystad via Duxford and North Weald?
It was marked as ‘VN75WB’ for the film so I’m guessing previous identity of ‘N75WB’ with the WB standing for ‘Warner Brothers’
Thinking of Beech 18s, a Yellow one has appeared in several episodes of ‘Lost’. I believe it has been torched in a recent episode
Returning to ‘Bond’ films, wasn’t there a particularly destructive car chase
in one film in which a Piper Cub and Aeronca Champ were smashed by cars in a hangar and then a poor old DC3 was ‘landed’ on by a couple more cars. I seem to remember Roger Moore escaping in a Luscombe which loses it’s wings as the hangar doors are closed on to it.
Makes me sick to watch.
Even worse is the Seabee destruction in ‘Man with the Golden Gun’. Was it genuine or a mock-up?
On a lighter note, the Pilatus P2s attacking the ‘Jones boys’ in ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ are accompanied by a soundtrack that sounds like Sea Furys – nice!!
I don’t think anybody’s mentioned ‘North By Northwest’ yet. There’s the famous crop dusting scene and also the Lockheed 10(?) at the end. Not to mention the Stratoliners (Northwest Airlines of course) in other scenes.

Guys lets stop this. I think your over looking a point here DIGBY said ‘end of’ so lets just forget about LD until shes finished. TFC are capable of producing some wonderful aircraft so dont spoil it eh?
I think we all agree that Digby is quite right in what he says, but manners cost nothing. The original question was politely asked and a simple ‘wait and see’ would have done without causing any upset.
Personally, I’m quite happy to wait and see. TFC have always done us proud in the past. No point in rushing these things.
Anyway, it’s good to have an ‘original’ P47 instead of a ‘bitsa’. No offence to ‘No Guts’, but wasn’t it built from parts? It’s no less of a P47, but historically the Razorback is more interesting.
Farewell ‘No Guts No Glory’, it’s been a blast!!

TT,
fair comment, anything is possible, but I can’t see a Spiteful (to use one of Cees own suggestions) turning up soon!!
Anyway, on with the fun…
Lockheed Neptune

Beardmore Inflexible
(now there’s a name)
and another (more sensible) one
Martin B26 Marauder

Now theres a thing!!
Well done for saving it from the scrapman. If so few were built, do any others exist?
Willow
Although it’s nice to dream, we should remember that many of the fine exhibits at Hendon/Cosford are sole remaining examples of their type and we are very lucky to have them at all. In some cases these aircraft exist only by the skin of their teeth, as it were.
Not many other places you could see a Defiant, for example.
Still, as I said, it’s good to dream……………….

Just a thought for your sailor friend.
The flight line is keep clear of all boats with only the safety vessels. The marinas are usually full. Has he a mooring booked?
B.P.
Thanks for the info.
I called him up to see if he was aware of this and since I last spoke to him he’d found out the situation and with nothing booked the idea has now sadly been scrubbed.
Oh, well. Maybe next year.
As for this year, back to the traffic!!
Willow
For the real anoraks it was the Reds first Hawk loss (in their first season after the change from Gnats) and the airframe was XX262.
The RAF Exhibition Flight plastic replica was painted as XX262 for years afterwards!
He’s moored in Ipswich at the moment. I’ll see if he’s got any space left on board as it’s a case of the more the merrier, but I know he had a lot of people initially interested (unsurprisingly!!) and there’s only limited space on board.
Cheers
Willow
As I was trying to work out how best to beat the traffic for this event a friend at work asked if I’d like to join him on his yacht for another days sailing.
Distracted from aviation for a moment, I happily agreed and asked where he was planning to sail to.
His reply?
‘oh, I thought we’d go to the Lowestoft Airshow, it’s only 8 hours sailing from where I’m moored’
Now I’ve been to airshows by car, on foot, in a coach, in a minibus, by train, and even by aeroplane, but never before on a boat!!
That’s the traffic issue solved then (at least, I hope so!!).
Now, a 40ft mast is a serious risk to low flying aircraft (i.e.Red Arrows – Brighton – 1979), but I’m sure that there are secure areas for us to anchor in. As an experienced sailing type person, I’m know my ‘Captain’ will take care of that in advance. The one thing we can’t control is the weather. I just hope it’s not too choppy as I’m not sure of my photographic skills from a rolling boat!!!
Willow
The only person who has a right to photograph my aeroplane is ME. Anyone else can, and often does, but please don’t tell me to move from my own property!
Whilst the above does not refer directly to Legends, it is sadly typical of some people. Owning a camera does not give you special privileges in the amount of ‘view’ you get.
This applies to Legends as well. On more than a couple of occasions at the weekend I saw attempts (by shouting or arm waving) to move people out of the way of aeroplanes when it was obvious that the ‘obstructor’ was either aircrew, groundcrew, or the owner. These people can go/stand/walk wherever the hell they like as far as I’m concerned, because without them there would be no aeroplanes and no show. As with any group of people, the minority ruin it for the masses when it comes to photographers.
As an example a friend of mine, a very keen photographer, phoned me up at lunchtime on saturday to ask how the show was going. I mentioned to him how great it was that all the Spits were lined up on the North side of the ramp ie the right side for the sun. His reaction was immediate……
‘oh, but you’ll get barriers and people all over the background’
You just can’t please some people any of the time, it seems!!!
Willow
Snapper,
You fished, I bit. Fair cop!!
Frankly I was surprised to read your initial comment as I have great respect all that you’ve done (as Ashley points out I’ve been on the forum a while) and continue to do.
It all makes sense now. I must be tired not to have realised what you were up to!!
So my apologies to you personally (but if you had mean’t it then I’d still stand by every word!!)
Regards
Alan
P.S. Actually I didn’t find then press too much of a problem this year. All you need is a little bit of patience (it’s not as if there isn’t something else to look at while you’re waiting for your shot to clear, is it?)
Oh, is that why he thinks he’s so important then?
Perhaps he should think before making such ridiculous comments about the status of the paying public at a major airshow?
For those moaning about high-vis jacket wearing press and their escorts wandering around spoiling their pictures, i’d better put it into words you can understand.
As a member of the press, I feel I must take issue with these attacks on our occupation. We are, by the very nature of what we do far more important than those of you that Duxford has declined to recognise with such items of apparel. Hence the reason that we who are paid to be there rather than paying to be there get priority over those of you who are merely paying to see some aeroplanes.
MERELY PAYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you mad??????????
Without people paying there would be no show. That makes us (the punters) far far far more important than ANYBODY else with a camera, cos without us going every year and forking out cash it wouldn’t happen.
Besides, isn’t there a ‘press day’ for you people? Why don’t you just go to that instead and stop spoiling it for people who have a genuine love/interest in the subject.
