Well done to all concerned. Another great show.

How can you possibly beat 3 (three) Bristol Fighters in close formation.

All the Spitfires or Mustangs in the world wouldn’t beat that!!

OK, well, they might, but WOW. 3 Brisfits. Brilliant.

Also the pair of Catalinas were fantastic. Top flying.

I even didn’t mind the Aerostars too much (it gave me a chance to go buy some ice creams without missing anything so thumbs up for that!!!)

Overall a top days entertainment. Whoever thought of putting the Spits and Hurris on the North side of the ramp deserves a medal. Fantastic for the photographers among us.

Again, well done everyone. Here’s to next year.

P.S. What is the current status of the P39? It’s beautiful, but can it be flown or is there a paperwork problem or something? As far as I know it doesn’t have a UK civil reg yet. That’s not a good sign.

Catalina heading towards the Essex coast just to the north of Colchester just after 7 this evening

and, not too surprisingly, Catalina heading West just South of Ipswich at 09:20 this morning.
Obviously on it’s way back to Duxford after going home for the night.

Also this morning, another An2, this time heading East at about 10:30. Silver one this time (the last one was green)

What we need here isencouragement forthose guys who as ever are trying to make it happen. Not carping about unsubstantiated facts.

Maybe there wouldn’t be so much ‘carping about unsubstantiated facts’ if the whole build up to the show wasn’t wrapped in secrecy!!

    Goodnight

Not forgetting of course that a fair percentage of the ‘Numpties’ you refer to will be forking out hard earned (!?) cash in the morning to attend the show
and will almost certainly go home happy.

(but if people didn’t have opinions then what would be the point in this forum anyway?)

Yes, clearly just having a D-day combat history just doesn’t cut it these days.

I expect there will still be plenty else to see tomorrow though.

OK, lets get back on topic then.

Antonov An2 over Ipswich heading West at 18:35 approx.
Low and slow (do they fly any other way????).

Oh by the way it’s a good job you saw that Irish T9 today, it won’t be on show at the weekend-too many Yaks. Hang on aren’t they trainers……….thought they wern’t allowed 😀

Excuse my ignorance (tall order, but give it a go), but why aren’t the 2 seat Spits involved? Is it for some kind of insurance reasons.

Clearly the TF51 from Chino wasn’t affected the same way.

As I now work in Norwich I have recently had the chance to visit CNAM.

I was absolutely amazed at the standard of work carried out on the airframes. The Meteor, Hunter FR, and Jaguar (from memory) are in a better external condition than some aircraft at much larger, more established, and better supported museums (in the UK, Europe, and the US)!! It doesn’t necessarily take much more effort to get things right, but it certainly makes a difference to the end result!!

    Well done to all concerned.

Considering that these exhibits are kept outside this is a real achievement.

The Whirlwind was being painted at the time of my visit (April). It’s good to see the Lightning in it’s genuine Saudi scheme (again, accurately done). Also pleasing to find a Dart Herald and Fokker Friendship on display. These workhorses are easily forgotten but have given sterling service and have great local relevance.

As I have a 7 week old son at home I can’t see me having the time to join up and help out at the moment, but I’m sure anyone who does would find it thoroughly worthwhile.

    Thanks for that.

Just what I wanted to here, as I have a prior engagement (typically) that weekend so can’t make the Saturday or Sunday.

    Cheers

So what exactly goes on on the friday then? Is it just arrivals or is there practising and airtests?

More importantly, is it the just the standard Duxford entrance fee………..

Stearman over Ipswich at about 130pm ish on Sunday. I was changing Jnr’s nappy at the time, so I only heard it but the Missus said it was a Blue biplane with Yellow wings.

The only other thing of note was a Yak52 heading East early in the evening. I think this was G-BXJB which is a regular around Ipswich.

Last years highlight was a Miles Messenger.

    I’ll keep watching!!!

P.S. Looking forward to the Queens Birthday Flypast on Saturday though, as it usually heads straight over us.

Newark have grasped the nettle. They have one Varsity inside – the only one in the U.K. Do we really need to preserve six or seven of the breed?

Just because an airframe is inside does not make it safe. Some very large, well supported, and well known organisations have had catastrophic hangar fires in the past. Although I applaud Newark for getting a Varsity indoors, I don’t think it’s a valid reason to dispose of any of the other airframes.

A sad loss to us all. Ray’s flying created enthusiasm for aviation in so many people. I have so many memories that I don’t know where to start, so instead I’ll just say this….

If you ever see an angel swooping to within inches of the cloud tops, it’ll be Ray.

    VULCAN

Impressive airshow item, but so was Concorde, and that doesn’t make it a good bomber!!

Operational history consists of just the Falklands (and by ‘just’ I’m not belittling the crews who flew these missions, just pointing out that most of the Vulcans career was spent as a deterrent).

Lot of fuss about a big sun shade if you ask me!!

Am I right in thinking that the ‘hall was the only airshow in britain attended by the A-6 Intruder? Damned shame I never got to one as that is an aircraft I’ve always liked.

I’m pretty sure that an IAT at Greenham Common had an A6 at least once.

The Electronic Warfare decendant of the A6 Intruder, the EA6B Prowler, also appeared at Mildenhall and at Waddington, a few years back.

As for Mildenhall Air Fete, I really miss it. It had real character and atmosphere (although the atmosphere could just be due to all the burger stalls!!)
