The power of moderator is abused and not applied evenly. Some threads are killed for being “controversial” while others that are much worse (the Iraq and 9/11 threads) are allowed to continue.

If you could read my original opening post in the CrazyMainer thread (which you can’t as the whole thing was wiped clean from the Earth) you would find that I did not attack him personally, but rather pointed out that in my opinion the moderators failed to ban him after extreme profanity and nasty accusations at fellow members in the 9/11 thread. After the moderators failed to do their job I felt we should all assume the roll of moderator, namely calling a bully a bully.

Thanks everyone. This photo’s been in the family a long time, and I had no information on it other than it was taken here in Kansas City. I was guessing as to the time frame, based up the fact my Grandfather was born in 1903 and he was probably in his mid 20s when the photo was taken.

    Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
    One entry found for moderator.

    Main Entry: mod·er·a·tor
    Pronunciation: ‘mä-d&-“rA-t&r
    Function: noun
    1 : one who arbitrates : MEDIATOR
2 : one who presides over an assembly, meeting, or discussion: as a : the presiding officer of a Presbyterian governing body b : the nonpartisan presiding officer of a town meeting c : the chairman of a discussion group

I believe the words “arbitrate” and “nonpartisan” are universal concerning the role of moderators. I will say again, IMHO, having moderators post in GD is a conflict of interest, as evidenced in the 9/11, Iraq, and CrazyMainer threads.

One presumes that Mr Patterson is in no way interested in the role of Moderator?

Nope, don’t want it and wouldn’t accept it.

Because an editorial comment is, by it’s very nature somewhat inflamatory I feel that moderators should not engage in any post that is not of a reference or factual nature (ie how to post photos). Opinion and moderation are NOT compatible, as has been demonstrated here.

The feed thread was locked because it was knocked completley off topic by Robbo and Andy.

If we removed every thread that was knocked off topic there would be nothing left.

I have just received a PM from another moderator indicating that my Crazymainer thread was not removed by Flood. I appologize to Flood for my mistake. As I received no notice that it was being removed I had no information to go on.

However, I stand by my core issue that moderators should not post. Flood did lock down the Feed an American thread when he became engaged in a personal debate, and I see this as a total conflict of interest.

And you know for a fact that it was Flood who removed it?

No, I don’t know that. The thread was removed, so I have to go from memory. All I know is that when you three (yourself, Flood and Robbo) started attacking one another my thread became your personal battlefield.

And to answer your question, yes I feel that Flood should not post here. Not and remain a moderator. He has a conflict of interest and your battle with Robbo hasn’t made it any easier.

I would like to know who pulled my thread, and why. I don’t believe there was anything wrong with the thread and it’s original post.

My purpose in the CrazyMainer thread was to try and educate everyone here to be self appointed moderators and to cull out rude and vile behavior when it occurs. If there were posts that needed to be censored, then pull those, but not the thread.

Maybe we need moderators for the moderators…

Thanks for that, SOC. Anyone know anything about the MB-2, like how long was it in service? Also, any information on a US tour in the mid-20s, perhaps after the Billy Mitchell sinking of the German ships demonstration?

    Thanks!

Great cat A3, lovely and relaxed, the way a cat should be.

Cowboy’s a male French Chartreux, so he has a slight accent. He also weighs just under a stone, so he’s a little heavy to carry around.

Here he is this evening, trying to figure out what I’m doing and why. Oh well, stupid human, back to sleep.

    Nice new avatar Mike.

Was EVERYONE bookshopping while the forum was down???

Have a nice trip DuxHwk. I’ve never been to Poland, but I’d like to make the journey with one of Mike J’s aviation tour groups. When’s the next one, Mike?

    GREAT photos, Daz…

No Rob, Cowboy doesn’t do any tricks. He does drive the car, from time to time though.

    Nice cat, Daz.

Mine is more like a throw rug with legs. Very little movement, except at dinner time.

Here’s a photo of Cowboy, with Mrs. P moving him to another part of the house.
