The other day one of the discovery channels had a whole day of classic british aircraft, I annoyingly only found out rather late in the day, but at least I wasn’t in trouble with the other half.
On virgin media it’s around 212 and if no aviation there is normally some war thing. I’m sure there are listings somewhere but I normally just find it is a matter of luck.
Is that the one with the Anson, Gladiator, Beverley and other nice stuff ? Narrated by yer man who used to shout ” loads of money ” as a comic turn ?
If it was then its a repeat of a repeat of a repeat…Dont worry it will be on again soon ! Well worth a look !
Has anyone watched the “Dogfight” series on various SAT tv channels ? All CGI/PC game type stuff but IMHO well done all the same. Shame that it only concentrates on USA stuff with the occasional Luftwaffe and IDF appearance.
Get well soon ! all the best from across the Irish Sea !
From Thundercheif to Thunderbolt;

A memorial in Normandy to the men of the 48th FG . And if you look in the background you can see what i think is some of the steel mesh used as runways on the improvised landing grounds.
Awfull news, that flight would have passed over us here .
My thoughts and prayers are with those who have died , their families and friends.
6 confirmed dead and 6 injured from 10 passengers and 2 crew, as detailed on RTE, the national broadcaster in Ireland.
They have just shown film on the Tv news, its horrendous.
Think maybe i should say my piece on this issue as i seemed to have opened a real can of worms, I would never have posted the link had i thought that it would annoy people so much.
To our German members, I am sure most ,if not all, members here understand your feelings about the number of your innocent civilians who died during WW2. But this holds true for both sides. I would urge you not to see this memorial to the airmen as a glorification of the death of your civilians but rather those who fought and/or died to give all of us, including the people of Germany, the freedom we enjoy today. From Andy’s uncle and Dr.Strangelove’s father to my father’s cousin who died in a training accident, they deserve our respect and thanks.
As regards Bomber Harris, he was not the one who decided to attack the cities, that was a decision taken at a far higher level than the commander of bomber command.
And as for Churchill, and i am afraid that i may step on a few toes here, while he might have been the saviour of freedom during the battle of Britain some of his actions were questionable , in particular i am thinking of the blame game which took place over Greece,North Africa and in particular the bombing campaign . I think the words of a fine Irishman, well respected by Churchill and in turn who returned that respect , say a lot:
” Dont know whether he would be a crafty enemy in friendship. Outlook: political gain, nothing else…..Dont actually trust him. “
and from one spit to another;

From one training aircraft to another pair of them !

Irish Air Corp Vampire & Magister at Collins Barracks Dublin.
I can’t open the link from here, but are you saying that the extreme right wing aswel as the extreme left are against this monument?
Yep,
A sample from the article;
“Germany’s biggest march of neo-Nazis later this month is targeting the construction of a memorial in London to the men of the RAF‘s Bomber Command who died in WW2.
Fascists who march through Dresden each year claim that the carpet bombing of the city in 1945 was a ‘war crime’. This year they have seized on the plans to build a monument in Hyde Park to vent their hatred.
The radical right, in opposing the monument, are hoping to tap into the mainstream discontent over the proposed memorial shared by most city residents.
They are due to march on Saturday February 19, 66 years after devastating Allied air raids turned the former baroque city into a sea of rubble that killed 25,000 civilians. Neo-Nazi groups hope that in excess of 5,000 people will turn up.”
lovely old stuff !

Imagine taking heavily laden Hurri’s in against a well defended European target in ’43 or ’44..that took a special kind of courage.
Still cant think where i read the account, I know it wasnt the account in “Big Show”, still cant remember who the author was or what book/mag it was in.
Must be old age catching up on me !
