Wild tail insignia
That’s a long-defunct East African Airways, Vickers VC.10 parked behind GBM 112. And the Zambian Air Force DC-6B is ex Yugoslav Air Force, one of two, later sold to an operator in Namibia. There’s a 50% chance that GBM 112 is now the Red Bull display DC-6B.
Probable misprint, but CIA vs Cuba was Douglas A-26 Invader
[QUOTE=chornedsnorkack;1346735]How much usable floor area does a Boeing 747-200 (VC-25/E-4B) have? And how does A380-800 compare against this?
Roughly how are the usable spaces of VC-25 and E-4B divided? I mean, the basic layout of both is public domain, and there should be a rough idea of the numbers.
Parts of the interior are similar. Both VC-25 and E-4B have principal´s bedroom in the nosecone and office/council rooms nearby. However, other parts are different. E-4B-s have large communications and command rooms taking up most of the rear of the main deck; VC-25s have a small communication room on the upper deck, and most of the rear main deck is given to guests/press/publicity.
An Airbus 380-800 is not the size of two 747-s. But seeing how a large part of VC-25 and E-4B interior and functionality matches, would it be feasible to furnish an A380-800 with the entire functionality of both VC-25 and E-4B?
Why? E-4B is command and control for war-fighting, VC-25 is VIP. Why combine them into one bird?

That DC-7C belonged to Affretair. When it was used for military missions, it was painted with common water-based paint, applied with brooms.

Looks to me like the Bell (or Agusta-Bell) shown in these photos is a 212, not a 412. The one shown here only has a two-blade rotor and is therefore a model 212. The model 412 has a four-blade rotor. Both are twin-engine.
An outside chance for US vs Venezuela, if Chavez gets really stupid.

The Avro Manchester
The Bell Airacobra for the RAF
The Brewster Buffalo for the USN and RAF (if not for the Finns!)

The Douglas TBD
The Fairey Battle
The Heinkel He177
The Hughes Spruce Goose
The Martin B-26
The Messerschmitt Me 163
The Messerschmitt Me 210
The Morane Saulnier MS406
The PZL LWS-4
The Supermarine Swift F1-4 (not the FRs)
I disagree with including the Martin B-26. It was one of the first modern, high-performance aircraft with a high-performance wing. It REQUIRED flying by-the-numbers, NOT seat-of-the-pants. Doolittle gave the B-26 units some very impressive aerobatic displays including engine-out performance, and changed the pilots’ attitudes. In combat, the B-26 proved to be very capable and could withstand some impressive battle damage. After WWII, too many Generals remembered too many scares and the B-26 was scrapped in favor of the less-capable B-25.
Gulfstream
Can anyone in the know put a bit of info here as to the role of the highly midified gulfstream featured in the article please.
Thanks
Steve
This is the newest version of the Phalcon AWACS, formerly installed in a Boeing 707. It is obviously much smaller, and reportedly is more capable than the original. The platform, now, is a Gulfstream 550.
Great pics of Ghana’s DHC-2 Beaver. Anybody have any of Ghana’s DHC-4 Caribou?

The Bush administration seems to be very determined to eliminate everything associated with Saddam Hussein. This, of course, ignores the fact that the historic Iraqi inverted triangle was in use before S.H. was born.

Re: SAAF Hunter
It’s Rhodesian, of course. Note the crudely erased AAM. The Rhodesian AF got AAM’s from South Africa. This bird was in South Africa getting fitted out, hense the “SAAF” identification.

Censorship?
Just what part of PROTECTING the pilot’s identity do you have a problem with?
Israel is a very small nation with a sizeable ethnic minority population, some of whom might be inclined to lash out at the families of these men, if they recognize them on the street. Paranoid? Yes, but with justification.
