From what ive heard the A310 sounds pretty terrible.
But I have to admit I really like the A300/A310 cockpits. Ok ok they are fly-by-wire which I dont like, and they may be terrible for a pilot to fly, but from all the photos ive seen of them, wow!
I think they look the most like a cockpit should. Please though, NO JOYSTICKS! They dont have the entire ‘glass cockpit’, and also it makes a pilot do what hes meant to do, fly the plane, not be an engineer on the aircraft making sure the plane is flying itself!
Sorry to all you airbus lovers out there, but apart from the A300/310, i think theyre all pretty dull.
(and by the way, not im not starting an A vs B war ok:D )
I frequently take mine with me, the problem is when im up there, i get no ‘reception’. About 400 feet in the air my scanner starts get rubbish, and then i just cant hear anything!
As for security, there shouldnt be a problem, and besides, if youre flying from a 3rd world coutry they would just think its a radio anyway:p .

Spanair MD80 i think, or Iberia 717… Returning to LHR from Alicante, plane suddenly dropped. Never found out what it was, either an ‘air-pocket’ or possible TCAS told them to dive, not sure. The guy behind me broke his arm, and the stewardess had her leg crushed by the trolley which went flying down the aisle and into her.
Another one I know of was on of my mates was flying back to Hong Kong from LHR (or vice-versa), and the engine caught fire on takeoff. He said the entire inside of the aircraft went bright yellow, and they abandoned the takeoff andhad to jump off shutes at the side of the runway!
Yea its W_A_S_P_I_E! just could be bothered to change my msn e-mail!
Nice photos m8, welcome too!
looks like it is! otherwise there will be some pretty unhappy winners!
lol wys.
Steve, as someone mentioned, LHR and MAN are the only main english airports that have two runways. Gatwick also has two, but one isnt used, and im not sure if it can be, can it? The two are very close together (runways), and they are parallel.
There are talks to build another 2 runways at Stansted, and possible more at Heathrow, Gatwick, and Luton!
I want them to, but then im biased because i want aviation to do well!
Nice pics, specially the one with the frog on its tail. What airline is that? Also, anyone know the aircraft?

Used to fly for Iberia virtual airlines, then moved to British Airways Virtual, then to GO Virtual, then to Elation Airways Virtual (great airline by the way!). Im now a free man!:D
I don like them. Personally, I think they only look good on the A340 and A330, but I dont like either of those aircraft anyway!
My advice would be to continue to gain flying, but for a lad of 14 you do have quite a lot. Im only 16, but I also started fying when i was 14. The problem with it is, quite simply, youre too young. Wait for a little bit, and then once you have taken youre GCSE’s, that summer (this summer now for me!) try and fly solo. If you gain too many hours before that in my opinion it would not a waste of money, but money that would be better spent later on.
Ok, once you have left school etc you need to be ready to apply to airlines. To be honest, sponsorship is almost non existent at the moment, but dont let that stop you applying. They might want to have you as a pilot because you will show how commited you are by gaining a PPL. If you cant get the sponsorship, then im afraid it may be tough times ahead! But DONT LET THAT PUT YOU OFF!! Basically, without sponsorship, you need to find about £52,000. Thats big money, and it wont be easy paying it off. University graduates leave university with about £15,000 debt, and they find that very very hard to pay off.
From what I know, and from what other pilots have told me (know about 6 airline pilots), there are two options from there.
1: Get a loan with the help from an airline, and lets say you were going to apply to Easyjet, you would take out a £52,000 loan at a 5.25% APR, and pay it off over 7 years working for the airline. CTCMcAlpine train their pilots.
Option 2: Get an instructor rating and become an instructor for a few years and build up youre hour from there.
Do google searches for these websites, they may have more information:
CTCMcAlpine
BAe flight training, Jerez in spain
Oxford Aviation (http://www.oxfordaviation.net)
Cabair Training college.
Hope this has been of some help, and by the way, my advice will be less usefull than someone like Skycruiser and Wys, so if our information conflicts, take their word for it!!
http://www.airbus.com would be your best bet 😀 :p
By the way, i know that if you decide to take the £52,000 loan and work for the airlines to pay it off, the average APR is 5.25%
Basically, if you want to be a pilot, there are 3 main options.
1: Military (go to military and fly for 7 years, then leave them and the airlines will treat you like golddust).
2: Sponsorship: Very very difficult to get, and you need to be the ‘best of the best’ in a way to get this. At the moment BA and i think Easyjet are offering this.
3: Self funded: become an instuctor after your PPL, and then get all the other ratings (very hard work).
I have been told by several pilots that I know that the best thing to do is write to BA when you leave school, and ask them about their sponsorship. Try and sell yourself in this letter, because they get a hell of a lot of applications, and have very few places for it.
Good luck!
Almost certain its an MD11. the DC10 had another air conditioner outlet to the right of the three engine toggles. There isnt one in that photo.
MD11 is my guess.
