Nothing wrong in being sexist. I await the pink chute with lace edges!
Yes there is. It makes the person, in this case you, appear a bit backward and unable to alter to the modern world.
So your point about law abiding Muslim citizens makes no sense then. They’ve nothing to do with any of this. It’s not their collective responsibility in the same way that a law abiding Christian shouldn’t be anymore vigilant or feel responsible if a deranged Christian in some other place commits a crime .
As an ex Para I would love them to pass P Company and a nice bit of Milling for light relief!:highly_amused:
As an ex para … I’m being a tad cynical and sexist.
I think kids should be kids and people should stop worrying about such trivialities. They grow up to quick, let them have fun.
Yes let them have fun. So (see the last link I posted) let girls have access to the dinosaur clothing range too aswell as boys. That’s the point! More role models for girls and wider horizons.
They can be proud but who is to define what a boy should be and what a got should be. Some boys are very sensitive, others are not. Same with girls. Some girls hate pink stuff and high heels. Others don’t.
There are plenty of girls who are frustrated by this so its not a case of letting girls be girls. There is no simple definition of girls and boys in terms of interests and temperament. Only stereotypes of it.
Gender nazism is a bit strong! I was meaning marketed in terms of shop marketing but your point about passing on things to kids that you enjoyed playing with yourself hits the nail on the head. That’s very human but it means that we instinctively pass on these presumptions. a little girl would like a meccano set as much as a barbie if that is what they are exposed to in isolation. My point is that stores should stop gender marketing. They are set up to like the pink doll from an early age.
Of course family members of these terrorist nutters can’t fart without them knowing about it.
But any family members who know are no longer law abiding citizens are they?
Unfortunately John I agree with you. It is just a matter of time before one slips the net here. I see no way of stopping a truck in the hands of an unknown ISIS sympathiser slips under the radar here. I hope the good and law abiding Muslim community mention any concerns to the authorities and not bury their heads in the sand. That I fear would begin to start a backlash against them all.
Paul, doesn’t your comment presume the good and law abiding Muslim community is partial to intelligence about things like this? I don’t think they do. None of my Muslim friends move in circles where they’d get inside info. Your close to putting everyone in the same box.
I think these considerate and informative images deserve some credit. Thank you for sharing
A follow up. Better put than I can.
The Sainsburys doctors/nurses story is a good example. We have fantastic nurses who are men and fantastic doctors who are women. But kids are told at a young age which job fits their gender.
You’re most welcome. Very happy to help. Even the most insignificant gesture goes a long way as the media outlets are demonstrating.
But Jonesy. None of these things such as horses, unicorns, Barbies etc are ‘girls stuff’ they are defined as girls stuff by the people who market them.
Kids will be interested, usually, in the things they see their friends interested in. Before nursery they had no interest in pink stuff and dolls. Only because others at nursery had that interest were our girls then following suit. Before it had been more what would be termed ‘boys stuff’. Why did the girls at nursery like this stuff? Well we soon found out it was because there parents bought them this stuff from an early early age, setting them up for these interests.
It is broke and constantly needs refining. Anyone in their right mind now would be horrified that women couldn’t once vote and that women were expect to cook and clean for their husbands. I think one day people will be horrified that institutionally we continue to seperate what is deemed to be ‘boys stuff’ and ‘girls stuff’ thus perpetuating countless stereotypes and myths. Keep unicorns and horsey stuff by all means but make it in boys sizes too. And make girls clothes with Thomas and Spider-Man on available at the same time!
Look at that link. It’s transparent as hell.
My copy of the D. Tel. 2nd inst. reports the criminal court case of a male submariner found guilty of groping a female submariner. As reprehensible as that is, what else did the MoD expect ?
Place men and women in close proximity and that is what you’ll get. There are in my opinion some activities where equal opportunities are a nonsense.
The underlying reasoning is the application of social engineering in complete ignorance of natural law governing the natural inclinations of men and women.
John. Deep breath and then reason and avoid those knee jerk reactions. You can do it.
So what did the MOD expect?
Hmmm professionalism? Crew members not to sexually assault other crew members? Lots of people have jobs working with the opposite sex and often for long periods. Ive worked in close quarters with members of the opposite sex. Often too for long isolated periods. Guess what! I’ve never groped anyone!
So if equal opportunities are a nonsense in some situations would you be happy then for the submarines to be all female crews on some and all male crews on others so everyone can be a submariner? That would be fair? Or would you like to return to a male only armed forces?
People worry too much about little things. No doubt money is involved…
Larry, in isolation it’s one small issue but go to any toy shop, children’s book shop or clothes shop and you’ll see this trend to pigeonholing continues. Do you think that’s ok or do you think that we should encourage everyone to be a racing driver, scientist, pilot or indeed prince / princess if they want to be.
Well you can always dress up the youngsters in Hi Viz yellow vests to keep them 100% safe from everything ;).
Nice to see you are still around Wings43 – you do seem to have chucked toys out of the pram on a few threads on the key forums 🙂
That’s an interest response but one that doesn’t really respond to the point. So it’s got nothing to do with health and safety. So I don’t think your first paragraph is really connected.
Secondly I don’t think raising an issue with a problem in society is ‘chucking your toys out of the pram’.
Best wishes though but I’m not sure how you’ve contributed to a serious discussion.
The more I read about his pre-bomb plot past the more of a whitewash the Valkyrie film appears.
