I’ll have a look in the book tonight for the part ID, if no one beats me to it. That part with the chain is bugging me, it looks familiar but I can’t place it…

It is very distorted, but a few close ups of the parts for you.

Be careful with the 20mm head.

Looks to be HE, minus its fuse (nose) cap.

Yep, it has been disposed of, now residing in a deep part of a nearby river.

We purposely didnt make the Hunsdon airfield memorial orientated around the Amiens Gaol raid as it was just one story out of the airfields operations.

Albeit, a well known and famous raid carried out by some very brave men indeed, but Group Captain Pickard, Flt Lt Broadley and Flt Lt Richard Webb Sampson will be commemorated on the new, and additional, plaque that will record all 124 airmen who lost their lives flying from Hunsdon.

This is to be dedicated in a service on Saturday June 23rd 2012. Information on our groups website at http://hamg.co.uk.

Just as an addage, There are No public rights of way on Hunsdon airfield apart from the well signposted public footpaths marked by the HCC. The landowners and the gamekeeper will deter anyone who tresspasses in the woodland or off the beaten track!

I have just finished reading ‘The Gestapo Hunters’ by GC Wakefield. In my humble opinion, the ‘plot’ is a mish mash of genuine 140 wing history mixed up with shallow characters and awful dialogue.

I mistakenly brought it on ebay thinking it was the book ‘The Gestapo Hunters’ 464 Squadron at War, by Mark Lax & Leon Kane-Maguire. Too quick to hit the ‘buy it now’ button thinking I had a bargain 😮

Better still leave it and tell the BD where it is.
I know it is only an incendiary, but even they can cause harm. Several were found in a row of gardens in my town a few years ago, when the BD turned up they looked for, and found three SC50’s not very far away!

Believe me, I would rather read about, or see a image of, a classic de Havilland like the Hornet Moth, than a picture of a Spitfire any day!
Great images and post all round.

35 years ago I faced the same dilemma. He was a strong minded fellow who was very close to his daughter. I asked that same question expecting the worst outcome, but knew I had to stand as firm as he. I asked him for his approval, not permission. I had to show him that I was not going to back down and slink away if he had said no.

After we got over the ‘you are not good enough for my daughter’ routine, and he realised that I was as even minded or as strong willed as him, he settled on the approval. Make no mistake, I suffered the ‘your not good enough’ blah blah for the next 26 years. He and I had a fairly tempestuous relationship, but but I think deep down he respected the fact that I was in it for the long run, and that I was the best choice as a son in law.

My wife and I have been together for 35 years. We are happy together regardless of family on both sides. There has never been a better saying than ‘you can choose your friends but cannot choose your family’ It is your lives that count, Marry her and ignore the rest.

One last humourous quote, ‘Marriage is like a bank account, the more you invest in it, the less interest you get!🙂
