Guns and Roses, absolutely raw gutsy rock at its best, and the epitome of genius. Just a pity that Axel drove a wedge the size of a barn right through the band.
The new GNR? …no, not for me, GNR and the lineup from ‘Appetite’ was the high-light.
Out of the two I would pick GNR, but Bon Jovi were just as good in their own way. But then again Aerosmith to me are just as good.
Music is too personal to have favourites, And I am too big a fan of the Rolling Stones to put any other band above them…so there!
54 and still rocking!
So glad to ‘see’ your return here on the forums.
Best wishes from another ‘heart man’, although I still have the same old pump, but have had new hoses fitted 😉

I think the practice bombs were only 20 lb apiece.
They are 11½ Lb’ers if I’m not mistaken.
I shall be at the Hunsdon airfield memorial on Sunday at 11:00AM, along with a few others to lay our wreath. Some of us will be at Sawbridgeworth airfield memorial on Saturday at 11:00AM making a weekend of rememberance for two of Hertfordshires wartime airfields.

Brilliant, thank you anneorac!
Just one last question, what age roughly, Second World War or Post War?
Thanks for the replies so far.
Andy, the neck flap looks as if it was cut away from the helmet at some point. Would it still be an E pattern?
NightReaper, I found a D type tropical issue helmet on ebay (for £175!), but there are subtle differences between that one and mine regarding the stitching pattern, especially around the ear area. The Oxygen mask hook is also of a different type too.
Carry on chaps, My £1.00 buy is cheering me up enormously!
The only unfortunate thing, is that the government does not fund or designate memorials. The last Number Ten petition for a Bomber command memorial, fell by the wayside for that very reason.
‘Belle’ completed her 25 missions from Bassingbourne. She landed there safely upon completion of that 25th mission without the damage indicated in the film loosely based on the original documentary. Enough of the true story was changed to ‘sex’ it up a little without adding a spurious landing as well.
‘ended up joining myself having seen the WW2 and other history sections’
I wandered into my local Library last week, first time for a year or so. I was most surprised to learn that the WW1 and WW II books had been seriously thinned out. It was pointed out that fewer and fewer people were taking out the books and most had been sold off. The place was more like a cyber cafe than a library, lots of people tapping away on the internet access computers with hardly any looking at the books. Sad really.
I just love journalists, especially those who cant even get the little things like basic facts right.:)
Colours would include the brown and green used during the Battle of Britain in 1941
Thank you, an extremely interesting post! I have not heard of these cups before now, was this a general Luftwaffe scheme, awarding cups for shoot-downs? I would have expected more of them to have surfaced in auction houses and antique stores, even more so on ebay. To be honest it is the first time I have heard of them.
I really must get up to Sywell next season to see it in languishing in its new home. Just glad it was saved:)
Good work all of you at Sywell [B]
Probably as much to do with morale and letting people know that they are still there, in business despite the blitz, and producing for the war effort.
‘Britain can take it’ attitude at its finest!
