I have never really liked flingwings, but as air ambulances their use is justified…..just.:)

Dunlop were the main supplier of tyres and tubes.

And not only for the RAF, A JU88 we recovered from Pitsea marshes, that was shot down in 1940, was fitted with Dunlops. The factory(s) in Germany still produced Dunlop branded tyres, albeit in control of the new masters;)

We have established that some of the actual landing fields were rigged. As for the bomb storage areas, thats something I have not heard of. Would you have a potential explosive device already rigged, in an area where you would do your utmost to ensure there were no unwanted risks?.
This needs a WW2 armourer to clarify..that’s if they were even ‘in the know’!

The main producers of optical bombsights for the Luftwaffe were Karl Zeiss of Jena. I dont know of other manufacturers though, although there must have been others, or sub-contractors.

Another Undercarriage that looks extremely complex is on the B52, I Had a good look at it at Duxford and thought it was quite clever in the way it must have worked.

I think I am right in saying that Detling and Hawkinge were found to have had pipe bombs laid under the turf. These were not found until a few years ago causing a little upset to say the least. I would imagine several ‘vulnerable’ airfields in 1940 would have had a system to deny use of a landing ground to an enemy. But the question is what ones!.

It is a ploy, a dupe, a fake, but a cleverly positioned one. You see, while you are taking photo’s of that , you completely miss the Chinese Short Stirling that is parked over the back;)

Back to the song…sheer unadulterated rubbish, one of, if not the most, awful things I have ever heard…apart from the Spice girls that is.
