    Plugs,bulbs and nuts

    Hi Pete

The nuts are sometimes confused with 6A/1755 as they are sometimes embossed with that Sec/Ref No, in fact the nuts don’t have a Sec/Ref No being 6A/NIV (Not In Vocab).

The socket assy is 6A/1755 and are used with a variety of bulbs for temp sensing.

I’ll send you an e-mail with what I have in stock in the way of plugs and temp bulbs.

Attached is an extract from AP1086 Sect 6A to AL/18

The Comet referred to in AP1086 Sec 6A is the jet Comet and not the piston engined variety as 4 generators are listed! So maybe some wires got crossed in translation between Comet types as you appear to have 2 out of the 4 required for the jet Comet.

6A/1429 is a MkVA Luminous 900-4000 rpm indicator

    6A ref numbers

    Hi Ken,

Attached is an extract from AP1086 dated 1966 which shows 6A/4420 equating to either KB153/03 or KGA-0403 but listed for COMET ONLY

6A/6680-99-4333780 is the current Sec/Ref for 6A/4420 and is in Nato Stock Number Sec/reference style.

    Hope that helps.

    regards
    Dave

Unusual pics of parts of WH983

The only ‘Canberra’ pics I have do not show the actual aircraft, but rather the remains of No1 engine taken on 19/11/76 at Marham. Pics are Crown Copyright.
These came to me via a retired work collegue a few years ago.

Are you after info on British AGS type (AGS639) or American AN type (AN807, AN838, AN840, AN842, AN844, AN848) ?

    Another ‘Instrument’ Dial

    Hi Bruce,

At first that’s the line I was thinking of, until I took them apart.

Attached are some pics of the Artificial Horizon ‘Instrument’ I have. I got this one before I bought the RoC from you and thought that the 2 would look good together!

I don’t think that they’re ‘gizzits’ or just made up from bits laying around as they are both marked on the back: ‘SUB-STD INST. DIAL’

    A mystery indeed.

    Hi John,

Sec/Ref 6B/2754 is a Type E2B Compass which AP1086 lists as a Type E2A with internal direct lighting. AP1086 also lists the transit case for E2 and E2A as 6A/2053

    Hope that helps

    Hi Steve,

Can’t help on the A.Std designation. but:

The column designated Ref No is the RAF Stores Section and Reference Number (Section 28, BA/BSF bolts being later designated section 28D), therefore sec/ref 28D/7240 equates to part number A1/1E which is a MILD STEEL hex head aircraft bolt 1/4″ BSF. AP1086 lists this bolt in having a minimum length under the head of 0.58″. The 6 prefix for the British Standard series that the bolts were produced to, therefore the full part number is 6A1/1E.

The A1 series bolt was superceeded by the A15 series bolt in 1940 (with suffix Y for High Tensile and Z for Stainless Steel) ie. an A15Y/1E bolt having a sec/ref of 28D/7145.

The A15 series bolt was then superceeded by the A25 series bolt in 1962 for High Tensile and A26 for Stainless Steel, an A25/1E bolt having a Sec/Ref of 28D/12707, the full part number being 2A25/1E for example denoting the Aerospace British Standard.

The letter part of the part number denoting diameter of 1/4″ (2A25 being the British Standard for BA & BSF Bolts) and the 1 denoting plain length of 0.10″

    Hope that helps

    Best regards

    Inside the stores

Some pics of inside the stores in Holbeach. These show a small percentage of Chipmunk spares that were stocked. Let alone the Dove and Heron spares.

These show some of the new old stock items, there were also shelves of ‘as removed’ as well.

    Hope they are of interest.

    Chipmunk

Was speaking to Dad last night about Chipmunks and other things and he said that the one pictured above came from Singapore and he bought it from someone in the Lee-on-Solent area.

He also came up with a couple of photos showing a ‘pile’ of wings he bought from Barry Parkhouse (when he had the Harvard in his garden!).

The other picture of the Chipmunk was taken at RAF Newton on an Air Cadet AEF trip.

Hope they’re of interest and I’ll have a look to see if I can find any other pics.

Most the stock for K&L went to various places (Devonair and Skytrade) I have a little of it left, but nothing like it used to be, happy days!
Bearing in mind that there were Dove, Heron and Chipmunk spares in there, both engine and airframe spares at time of sale, no fuselages though.
I certainly remember the Chipmunk fuselages in there ( we also had them in the garden at home on occasion too! amongst other things) and also 10-15 rear fuselage sections which were bought ‘cos they were cheap’!!
A couple of the Chipmunks were bought from College of Air Training at Hamble (G-ARMD and G-ARMF) if I remember rightly.

Dad is now happily retired, but still dabbles a little!
