….trying to work out how I could tow one behind my Land rover………
Does take the shine off having fun, looking for stuff on ebay knowing there is 3 or 4 people seriously bidding to resell. I bought my first cockpit off ebay some years ago, however, doubt that will happen again due to high values that are put on them now. Most recent examples run their course unsold because of over pricing. We are in a recession, there is not the spare cash around to throw at this stuff like there was. More museums are struggling (or going under) recently and this year will be a tipping point for more. When I see a jet engine on ebay for £2,000,000 I realise its probably over priced by £1,990,000 and cannot think who would pay that sort of money.
Most people on this forum know a bargain when they see one but, they are fewer and further apart.
Its got to a point where my visits are fewer and further apart

It does seem a bit harsh as the same kids probably went sledging on a cheap £10 ASDA one later that evening:rolleyes:

Not Spitfire, S5 or S6, looks older, sort of WWI era.
Thumbed through Putnam and nothing jumped out at me, one on page 16 comes close, P.B.9
Might not be a Supermarine blade, perhaps a competitors? something laying around?
Be nice to see it close up for makers stamps

It’s time to let the Battle rest now. We’ll probably lose the rest of the vets this year and it’s so long ago, the youth don’t care or know, and it should slide quietly away into the history books like Trafalgar and Crecy. Even the bottom has dropped out of the Aviation art market. People aren’t interested anymore except a handful of people of web forums . . .
More than education, its about inspiration. We have to show youngsters what its all about.
That nine year old boy who sat in my Spitfire at Castle Drogo last year, dragging his parents from Exeter to my gaff 2 months later to see my other Spitfire and hold a very good conversation. Show me some of his artwork and talk about his future in the RAF. If thats what dragging my sorry arss and my exhibition achieves every weekend, then thats what it makes it worthwhile.
Good for Graham Adlam.
If it inspires only one child at his show to have a future in the aviation world and take an interest in historic aeroplanes, its been a success.
Where will the next Andy Saunders come from?
