I could tell you – but it would be censored!

Lets just say its an ‘affectionate’ term for a new pilot trainee 😉

Blue Robin – not a retro repaint, but something new! And yes it is for trials work again. 🙂

As Will suggests why not pop along and see it Sunday or Monday evening at our fireworks event.

No BlueRobin no blame placed on you at all. As it turn’s out it’s mainly my fault! 😮 I gave the chap a guided tour of our facillities on Thursday, as he was the leader of a group of teenagers (there as part of an awards scheme). I didn’t consider that there interest was at a level to be concerned about so I didn’t add my normal requests to keep information confidential. I was wrong (Careless Talk costs lives!). I was also concerned as one of the quotes was lifted directly from my internal Classic Flight confidential forum, but I guess that info was passed on by someone else. I appreciate that everybody wants to be the first with a scoop but it would just have been nice to keep the details about G-ANAF quite until her rollout and private sales between people should also be just that until people wish to make them common knowledge. So probably best just to move on now but as a general rule to anyone if we tell you any juicy info when you visit, please dont broadcast it to the world! 🙂

Cracking, that photo is very useful. Ours just has hole’s where the chrome fittings are in your photo and we were wondering wether it was another rack as fitted to the other side that should be there. 🙂

ahh.. chipmunks. my all time favourite seems to have vanished – WZ878 of 11AEF, RAF Leeming. I had my first flight in her, and a few years later, my last chippy flight in her when she was retired with the rest of the fleet.

I was also witness to one of the very rare chipmunk incidents (1994 i think) – again WZ878. The pilot attempted to take off with a gusting crosswind and misjudged it. One gust found him tail up and heading off the side of the runway. As a natural reaction he stamped on the brakes…. DOH! TAILDRAGGER!. 878 ended up on her nose, using her spinner for a brake… When I was last at 11AEF in 96, the bent prop was still mounted on the wall in the line office.

WZ878 is still with us and operated in France by Michel Blanc from Vinon-sur-Verdon. Here is a link to a google translated page reference her.

Oh no, that’s right, it was just the actual return to flight and operation that you doubted, wasn’t it DGH.

    Any more for the bandwagon?

 Well I’m at a loss, I’ve just checked back through my posts going back to the beginning of 2005 and I cant find when I’ve ever said anything like that?

    I did say on 13th February 2006 :

I can see were you’re coming from with relation to costs but I actually believe that the Vulcan will be a huge draw at Airshow’s, I think the real issue is going to be what airshows will be able to cope with the crowds! I’ve got no idea what the actual cost to an organiser is going to be but if they manage to do it for say £10,000 then thats 500 people at £20 per head, I honestly dont see that being a problem, certainly not in the first couple of years anyway. I think some people get a bit complacent about some of the aircraft that they have seen many times, talk to jo public about airshows and nearly everyone over the age of 30 will talk Vulcans. I believe alot of the people who have driffted away from the airshow seen will be drawn back (if only for a short while ) by her presence, and think of all the dads who will want to show there kids and partners the mighty Vulcan that they remember from there youth.

I tell ya, they’ll be queuing for miles……….

The closest I can find to me knocking the project is this statement on 5th June 2005, but I don’t think you take it as that?

Stop knocking this project! I to have my own misgivings about this project but this is the only time I have mentioned it and the only time I will. If this project fails you can bet your bottom dollar that any further proposals for aircraft to receieve manufactures support etc on such a large scale will be wriiten off at the drawing board with everyone saying ‘ oh no we got invovled with the Vulcan and look were that got that us! ‘ This project is now deep underway if it fails so potentionally will many more in the future. If you have negative thoughts about this project it does nobody anygood to voice them.

P.S. My ‘own misgivings’ were nothing to do with the return to flight or operation.

Still hasn’t stopped me giving money to the project.

I guess I’ll just have to stay confused?

I have to appologize, having looked in ours today the colours are indeed blue, my memory is getting bad. It is a mix of light and mid blues. Anybody know what the material is that is used to cover and line the interior panels? Its like a vinyl but very thin and not very hard-wearing. Even better if you can tell me were we can get some now! 🙂

I’ve never doubted the effect of the Vulcan. So I suggest anybody who wants to see her at an airshow next year fly’s in, as the traffic que’s are gunna be huge! 😀

Problem is, it’s not just ‘a few’ pounds anymore – the price of scrap has rocketed. Thats why there are groups of gangs going around making a tidy packet out of it everyday.

    Disgraceful. 😡

I have to agree that I think its to do with scrap metal. The people doing it have no shame, one of there prime targets is signalling cable next to the railway lines. There’s some line’s in Essex that get disrupted nearly everyday because someones nicked the signalling cable. Last week they dug up the road round here and stole the telephone cables! I’m not joking! Left hundreds of people disconnected for age’s. 😡
