Ah a zombie thread…
Please read all the previous posts – the owner has a history of telling those enquiring after his Lightning to close the door quietly on their way out (or something like that). So unless there is some new news about this one, or you have something totally new and exciting to add to the discussion, please refrain from posting here. Thanks. 🙂Flood
A bit OTT Flood. 😡
Thats what this forum is here for is it not? To make a comment on a thread wether it is old or new. I dont see anything wrong with Tims post other than perhaps its intention could have been worded a bit different. Feel free to post Tim.
DGH – I think they sold it because they were having a rethink of the collection and the B-25 didn’t strictly fit in the scheme of things. I guess they knew it wasn’t a fighter when they bought it! As for the Staggerwing -it’s the ideal aircraft if you want to go somewhere and not run up expensive hours on a Merlin engine . It also has the advantage of being pretty quick .
Thats kind of what I was saying…… 🙂
Isn’t this the same Fighter Collection that sold the B25 because it wasn’t a fighter
Guess this will make a good hack though.
Beautiful Glenn, great photo, fantastic plane – nice. 🙂
Right Lightning 🙂 😀 😎
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 Thats just made my Christmas! Fantastic news – keep up the good work. I for one really appreciate all the hard work you’re doing in the classic jet field. 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎 😀
What a shock, I’m stunned.
Ray Hanna was a legend in our house even before I was born ( I’m 34 ). I’ve grown up watching his displays which was always a pleasure. He was a master of the skies. The end of an era.
My sincere condolences to his family, friends and everyone at OFMC. A sad day.
GAOSU is now sadly a wrecked airframe after a very heavy force landing almost a year ago near Elgin at the glider strip. The pilot survived and was badly injured but is now out of hospital. The wreck is stored at Kinloss ,I would guess that the pilot was wearing a helmet because the cockpit coaming has a huge dent in it.
I was also an air cadet and loved the chippie flights.
This aircraft has just been sold. The new owner might wish to update us with his plans next time he pop’s in here. 🙂
I’ve just checked this thread and Im sorry to hear of Taffy’s passing please pass on my condolences to his family SteviePB. 🙁
Congratulations Air Atlantique and a big thumbs up for saving another piece of our aviation history. 🙂
Thanks for the info on Marham Les, unfortunatly fate got in the way and I had to miss todays departure but ta.
Lovely to see ‘753 getting a bit of attention and a good new home, just one thing though ( and I’m going to hate me for saying this! ) isn’t that paint nowhere near the right colour for a Lightning. I’m sure Albert will be along in a minute to back me up on this. 😀
Were is she at the moment? If she’s at Marham I might pop up tommorow to see her go, if she’s at Shawbury then I guess Coventry would be easier but I aint doing that trip on me day of!
Nice piccies Andy. The F2A in your photo is XN726 and the F6 I think is probably actually F2A XN795 but I cant really get a good idea of the colouring from the photo. XN795 was a development aircraft and went to Shoeburyness in bare metal. Both had their cockpits removed by Nigel Towler along with T5 XS421, but you probably know all this. 🙂
Thanks for all the updates guys. 🙂
At my last check I think there was about 130 Doves / Devons still in existence around the world out of the 544 made. As Bruce says there are many that could be restored to airworthy condition but I dont expect many will.It is a shame as I think they are an ideal aircraft for a group of like minded people to buy and use as a cool way of getting to airshows etc. They dont seem to go for that much money in the grand scheme of things ( sure I saw one advertised for £30,000 not long ago ) although I’m sure they must be pretty expensive to maintain.
David I believe the NTPS aircraft N11XW (04401) hasn’t flown in a couple of years but again I would love to be proved wrong, so little information drifts through about these aircraft it is hard to keep an eye on the one’s in a different country.
I believe you can add another flying example to the list :
VH-DHA ( 04514 ) : Rudge Air, Mellbourne-Essendon – Australia
I bottled out on including this in my first list due to the Australian CASA website claiming it is a Tiger Moth !! I then checked with some photo’s and yes it is definitely a Dove.
I am also a little dubious if VH-NBM flies, if anyone could confirm this I would appreciate it, ta. 🙂
