I dont think so 😡
F86 not much of a legend apparently – Mig killer, first plane supersonic ( allegedly ) – sorry just teasing 😀
And the remains of the former airfield at Witchford are right next door. I believe theres a memorial there on the industrial estate.
Well I can tell you yesterday the F86 did two practice displays, the Hurricane was doing engine tests, the P39 was as per photo on another thread and Princess Elizabeth was being polished by Stephen Grey and having its markings applied, its prop was also moved into postion for fitting. All this is of course know well out of date considering how fast things change at Duxford this week.
Do you not have annual shows then? What would you say are the best venues.
I have seen many great pictures from Swiss airshows, they always seem such great venues. I think I’ll go to one next year – which is the best? ( I would expect to see Venom / Vampire / Hunter ).
You could try the camp site in Great Shelford – (01223) 841185. They are a camping and caravan club site so I dont know if you have to be a member but they do have good facilaties. Good access to Duxford by bus as well if you’re not in a car.
Er, Yuk – modified ‘Chippies’ 🙁
I think I shall have a little wander up there me thinks.
Nothing going on around here this weekend except a bunch of old boring propjobs down at Duxford 😀
Can I sue that paper if the Lightnings dont fly 😉
Nice JP you have there! I think the JP4 has to be my favourite of the breed having the nice JP3 fuselage with the bigger engine. I must save those pennies so I can book a flight with Eddie Todd. 😀
Unfortunatly my only real story regarding the JP isn’t a happy one. I remeber about 4 years ago watching one start up at Duxford. The aircraft was visiting and was parked on the apron in front of the Shack and Victor, it was parked sideways on. As it was mid week nothing much was going on so a crowd soon gathered to watch. Everyone was enjoying watching the what looked like a trainee pilot with his instructor going through there check lists etc when the aircraft started to taxi, unfortunatly his next action was to turn the aircraft. The result of which was we found ourselves facing the rear end of a hot JP at about 25ft distance! People were scattered everywere, my back felt like someone had rubbed sandpaper down it and it hurt for a week! I shall remember to be suspcious of all black painted JP’s in future.
Blimey, your in Texas! Don’t think the glow even from this face will get that far!
Er, yes. Hope the glow from embarrassed face isn’t to visible from there 😮
Bl**dy Sh*t Machines, get yourself a cat – you wont see them bringing your stick back, far to inteligent 😉
Mine used to be called ‘Spitfire’ – original I know!
Fantastic stories, keep um coming…..
Steve, I believe you can do a Chipmunk conversion at Sywell although I’m prepared to be corrected!
Excellent pictures and recollections, just what I was hoping for.
John, you are correct the fuel tank gauges are in the wings and are not lit – so no night flying and the two fuel tanks do indeed hold 9 gallons each.
I envy all of you who have had the chance to fly in this little beast.
I did see the TFC Corsair set fire to the bottom of its fuselage on start up a couple of weeks ago and can confirm a fire extingusher was on the starter and the fire was out within seconds, no drama.
