Piston Power – The parts have to be genuine because that is your guarantee that the part should perform within the specification that it was designed for.
That is why aircraft are very expensve -it takes many hours of design and test to produce something that is usable and safe.

The Mod does not have a limitless cheque book -indeed those days finished a long time ago -so whilst it would be nice to set up facilities to produce new parts -the economics of producing new parts on the demand for the world’s two airworthy Lancasters would be crazy!

    Thank you david,

Apart from the run of the mill parts of engines wheels tyres etc don’t the bbmf try to find and keep in stock such parts like this valve for the future when spares become even harder to source?.

PP, you’d probably learn more by watching rather than posting.

The BBMF know what they’re doing, you patently don’t know anything about the subject.

Robbo, This is a open forum to discuss plenty of things to ask questions to learn yes i may not know as much as you but you have to ask questions to get on, im sorry if your bored with my posts i will ask the questions as and when i want.

Therefore it’s both very expensive and time consuming to manufacture any aircraft part whether it’s for a new or old aircraft……………………

Yes i appreciate that but this is the Royal Airforce not Berts bone yard aeroplanes and the cheque book is HUGE!

So have you got it sorted with a replacement?

Would it not be better to start making parts such as this or overhaul kits for the future of this aircraft rather than ask a forum to bale it out?

Why does the part have to be genuine?

A really helpful post, have you considered that there may be no ‘new valves’ available?

I know you want original but look at alternatives.

So are you telling me there is no high/low pressure hydraulic valves left in this country?

Either it’s for petrol, diesel, oil etc there is plenty of companies that can make a valve for it.

Failing that whip it off and get it fixed they have had it long enough to know if parts are available or not!:D

If we can overhaul the merlin engine which is just as old we can fix this little valve.

If you have no parts to repair the valve you have and you can’t get some made then replace it with a brand new valve it’s not rocket science is it!:diablo:
