Try these (same aircraft), ‘The Dung Hunter’ (Australian) and ‘The Clutching Hand’ (British).
It’s nice isn’t it Ollie?
There was a fighting code of sorts. No strafing a downed enemy plane, give quarter if asked ,mercy if needed and fight hard always.Richtoffen is painted as the perfect hunter, skilled and calculating but in real life was he?He was certainly smart enough to fight on his terms, usually finding weaker opponents, avoiding dogfights etc.Anyone know of other tales and missed myths?
I think that’s more or less rubbish.
Voss who for reasons unknown has been painted as the perfect aerial knight who died fighting odds of seven to one in a dual that has become legendary. Sadly, he was also in the habit of strafing the wrecks of aircraft he downed and is on record as killing the occupants of them too–even though they were down on his side of the lines.
Manfred von Richthofen on the other hand has been oft painted as the ruthless slaughterer of innocent British two seaters and has at times been vilified. What a crock, that’s exactly what he was being paid to do!!!

The Tiger registration was G-AOAA named ‘The Deacon’ and was one of four conversions to ‘Super Tiger’ done by the Tiger Club.
Yes, I’m going blind.
I’d love to know the exact date the picture of ADAA was taken at Old Warden with the girl on the wing.
I remember ‘The Tiger Club’ turning up there one time with the girl on the Tiger holding strings with a Turbilent on each string.
I wonder if this picture (526) is that very occasion.
Also was G-ADAA the Tiger named ‘The Deacon’?

As I understand it, a decision was made by Hawker Siddeley to allocate an airframe to The Collection.
It was the Tomtit, although there was talk at the time that it might be the Cygnet.
What a shame the Hart didn’t come too.
Andy.
The Gladiator was painted in pre-war colours and its ‘correct’ ‘L’ series serial (although registered as G-AMRK) but it was later decided that an ‘L’ serial looked odd, and so the letter was changed for a more pre-war appropriate ‘K’.
Great photos, and I’ll second the comments of thanks to Ray Wood and Mark 12.
James,
are you sure it didn’t wear ‘K’ before ‘L’?
It’s just that the ‘L’ shots seem like they’re later to me.

486 is my favourite of all so far.
Thank you.

Hopefully it isn’t based around this:-

Kicked to death here earlier in the year.

Looks very interesting, what time is ‘kick off’?
Be there for 10.00AM.
This thread has been going for ten hours and so far no one has accused anyone of being negative!
You’re negative–there feel better.
My almost complete contempt for news reptiles remains as strong as ever!
I wonder why?

Huns at Lakenheath–wonderful.
I doubt it – you know as well as I do what the roads are like around there. Agriculture, hardcore from the runways / taxiways, light industrial use for the hangars I’d guess.
Bad infrastructure has never bothered housing developers in the past–but I’m sure you’re correct… 🙂
