MT719 was painted up not as Ginger Lacey’s plane but as exactly as it was when the scheme was found under the Indian paint by a certain Spitfire Historian, researching in Turin, then the home of MT719.

Jimmi Nutti is part of FEAF folklore. The IWM should hold a bunch of offical photos of him. From memory he was Burmese and adopted by the wing that included 17 Squadron.

When I return to I will dig out more details. Jimmi Nutti cetainly prospered from his funded education and I think became an engineer. There was certainly contact with him in the late 1970’s early 1980’s.

I thought it was part of the charm.
The comentator, like most other people working on OW show days is a volunteer.
Worth bearing in mind when being critical.

how about between the wars bombers?
About 15 years ago there was a great series of articles in Aeroplane Monthly (it was worth reading back then) that covered all the between the wars RAF bombers.
I can’t remember the title now but it followed on from an equally good series of articles called ‘On Silver Wings’ about fighters of the same period, which was turned into a decent book.
Sadly, the bombers series was never made it into book form.

Something like that might be good.

I can only speak for the two WW2 veterans that I know but they’re bewildered by enactors.
Once when my Dad got into conversation with some of them at Duxford they seemed quite dismissive of him.
I know I’m biased here but I thought that they might have learned more from him than than he could have from them.

I can’t say here what he said about them!
Hence my thoughts on motives.

As usual James you have that knack of firing a bullet that travels close to my heart.
I have over the years considered the morality (if that’s the word) of flying old war planes or owning old military vehicles and displaying them.

Usually after a while of iconclusive pondering my brain starts to ache and I go onto to more cheerful subjects like what’s for lunch or will the pub still be serving Adnams tonight.

I find the same happens when I consider third World debt or why we don’t cure Aids.
