So the pilot made a mistake, It’s human to make a mistake, sadly aviation ones are often very unforgiving.
I agree with B130 above and also remember, they volunteered in the first place. An act of courage in itself that many here wouldn’t be capable of.

There were Mk.IF’s in all BLACK nightfighter schemes.

All Blenheims were built as bombers. The 4X 0.303 gun packs were built as a kit by The Southern Railway workshops at Ashford.
They were then installed on Blenheims by the RAF.
The very first AI nightfighter kill was carried out by a Blenhein MkIF of the Air Fighting Development Unit.

Picked up some lovely old books in an antique shop yesterday – for a pound each!

They are:

Enemy Coast ahead – Guy Gibson. A VERY early edition.

Britain’s Wonderful Air Force – Lots of lovely photos and drawings. Book published in August 1940.

RAF in Russia. Another wartime book. Very tatty, but some great photos.

Reaching for the Skies. Think this dates back to 1940, or possibly earlier. Performance data on the Spitfire, for example, is classified.

I’ll post some pictures when I get home – they really are lovely books.

When Steve, Allison, Mike and I were there at the end of February we found some great stuff in the second hand bookshops in Tombland and Elm Hill.

it was the same aircraft that Cody later fitted with wheels, which crashed and killed him on August Bank holiday that year.
It was a machine he’d designed specially for the round Britain race.
