Nettles and wasps – two things that have no purpose on this earth other than to annoy and irritate. Add Linda Barker and you have an entire axis of evil.

    Agred Dan
    and the cast of ‘Friends’.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole episode wasn’t a stunt of some sort.
There’s no such thing as bad publicity.
These two have kept their names in the paper now for how many months?
    Cynic, me?

    Well done Dave
I’m getting withdrawal syptoms with no pictures being posted on the forum.
This is very interesting stuff and I love the two flying boats together.
I’m quite envious of Patty and his trip.

Captain Lorraine and Sgt Wilson may have been the first RFC as that was not formed until 1912. They are commemorated at the Airman’s Cross close to Stonehenge.

I’ve got some pictures of the Airmans Cross sitting in my scanner.
As soon as this picture posting facility is repaired I’ll post them up here.

But you were certainly right in your 1000th post, Andy; Winged Victory is a marvellous book, and well worth the magic number. So I don’t think humble pie is warranted in the slightest!
I first read it in paperback many years ago, when I thought I was a bit clever flying the Pitts with the Rothmans Aeros Team. That book very quickly put me back in my place, with a proper perspective on things. Now I have fairly recently found a well thumbed and tatty hardback edition in our local library here in Oz. I want to buy it, but they say it is still in demand, and my argument that I am the chap who keeps taking it out, which is why it is still in demand, cuts no ice. So I am tempted to ‘lose’ it, the enormous fine will be worth every cent!
Good luck with the plaque, a great idea.

In what years were you flying with the Rothmans team?
I saw them many times in the early to mid seventies. First with Stampes and later with Pitts.
Any pictures from back then you’d care to post.
Cheers and thanks for the kind words about V.Yeates.
    Andy.
PS. Nick I’m glad you’re enjoying the book too. I really want the story of the author and news of how good this book is to spread.
It might get us talking about something other than Spitfires all the time.

No the guy with the Ukulele fought Mohamed Ali in Zaire way back in 1974 !!!!

I often wondered what happened to him.
I never knew he took up boxing–didn’t seem to have the build for it.
What weight did he compete at?

Was he the bloke with the Ukulele who used to sing songs about about Mr Wu and made a film about the TT races or the bloke who was part of a double act that used to sing ‘Underneath The Arches’–and he wore a funny coat?

    All sadly before my time.

I didn’t think you actually had to do anything to get banned!

Owning a Rearwin is enough to get you banned here these days mate–never mind some of your other activities.
And I don’t mean the one’s that involve sailors and saving up for your insurance either.

I hear that there’s a map of La Belle France awaiting me Saturday.

No, it’s a free Janie with every packet of Chipmunk brakes.

    Are they like Pork Scratchings?

Be careful boys and girls we’ve passed from a free autonomous collective to a police state.
