The petrol forecourts thing, though, is because the earlier phones interfered with the counters on the pumps and people were getting cheap fill-ups – nothing to do with fire risk (as was brilliantly demonstrated on Brainiac a while back – they filled a caravan with open petrol containers and piles of all different types of mobiles, rang them all at the same time to no effect whatsoever, and then blew the whole thing up afterwards with the static generated from someone wearing nylon clothing).

This is the incident where a certain American observed that I can be an edgy S.O.B.
I mean we hear of things blowing up every day caused by sparking from mobile phones. 🙁 🙁
I also wish I’d have kept the picture of a certain well respected warbird restorer and engineer talking on his mobile while sitting on the wing of a certain Sea Fury with his feet in the wing (a cover was removed) trying to source ‘one of those screwy little Limey ‘o’ rings’–his words.
Maybe American Avgas is less volatile than Limey Avgas. 😉 😉 😉
