I have been wanting to go to Legends for a few years now. 2005 is very possible for me. 🙂 I have a few questions if anyone is willing to help out. Sounds like many spits, mustangs, forts, anyone have an average count? My uncle flew B-17s out of Great Ashfield in late ’43. How close is the field for a visit and finally, which museums would be good to plan on visiting?

Great Ashfield is a few miles from the town of Bury St Edmunds. It would take about an hour in the car from Duxford. I would suggest a hire car or persuading a Brit to take you (someone here might be willing to help).
Bury St Edmunds is a historic little town and worth looking round and there are a couple of 8th AF memorials in the priory grounds. There’s also a memorial to the 385th BG in Great Ashfield Church.
As far as museums go, The Shuttleworth Collection (dear to the hearts of many here) and the RAF Museum at Hendon come to mind.

Bent waters, what a waste!!!! I used to live there for a time, the sound of cars being thrashed up and down the runway on a Saturday morning would carry for miles, far more annoying than the odd aircraft or two.
Oh an airfield, I think I’ll buy a house next to that and then get annoyed if somebody decides to fly, some people in this world really are so stupid they shouldn’t be let out on their own!!!!
Can I write to the council to complain about my neighbour using his lawnmower whilst I’m having a relaxing beer on my patio of an evening??? Would the council ban him from having grass???

These people seem to think that the countryside is some sort of rural idyll that must be preserved like a theme park.
They’ve absolutley b*gg*r all idea of what the real countryside is all about.

Young, you spend far too much time thinking about pubs than is good for a young man of your tender years. That young woman from South Yorks you’re often seen walking out with must lead a terrible life always looking for you in one hostelry or another!! 😉 😉

I’m still not convinced about that one, Andy. As far as I know, there were never any Sunderlands in that part of the Far East. I can’t find anything in my books about Stirlings going to China, but he said that the photos taken in Brisbane recently clearly showed a Shorts-type tail fin, and Chinese PLAAF markings were clearly seen. Anyone else have any info? I’ll do some more research when I get home tonight.

Well all I can say Mike is that you and I both know that there were two blocks of serial numbers originally allotted to Stirlings and Mosquito’s that were never supposedly used. They’ve been reputed to be the missing ‘China batch’ for some years now. Only hearsay I know.
