it might be some sort of warm bitter stuff to you at the moment but after six pints of ‘Bombadier’ you won’t need the Sea Fury to to fly.
and a pre dawn visit to the bathroom is like flipping the afterburner on the Mig.
(Pedants please note I know a Mig 17 hasn’t got an afterburner).
Should we take in a curry too??

I think we’d better work on the more the merrier principle.
Especially in the pub after.
Also there’s a decent Indian restaurant in Biggleswade.

Old warden.

The saturday night show at Shuttleworth on 15th May would be highly recomended.
(for two reasons)
1) Old Warden on a Spring evening (weather permitting) can’t be beaten.
2) There’s a half decent pub in the village that sells the produce of Bedford-Charles Wells Ales. Which is a very acceptable pint .
It would be good to see you there.
This could be an opportunity for a few of us to meet.
What do you think?
Also have you noticed how much trouble we seem to be having with Australian residents about theses parts lately?
(Sorry JDK–not you) What a wonderful image of that country they project around the World.

Hi all
does anyone know what happened to the executioners?
Obviously the names seem to be known.
Scharpwinkel and Lux seem to crop up as the offenders often enough.
Hopefully they had the feeling the rope start to tighten round their throats.
Anyone know??

I’m impressed!
S/no as well.
I thought 4Sqn SAAF used KJ codes.
What book/ref are you using.
I always refer to Squadron Codes 1937-56
by M.J.F. Bowyer and John D.R. Rawlings.
Quite ancient now but usually reliable.
Just curious.

Do you think that Squadron code is DX?
If it is I can’t find a match for any Kittyhawk or Tomahawk squadron.
RAF, RAAF or SAAF.
Best guess anyone?

Hi All
Firstly thanks for all the information.
I’ve been having a dig around myself since my original post and I’ve discovered a couple of further things about D-B coded Spitfires.
Firstly there was a Mk.IIa coded D-B and this was also a presentation aircraft ‘Manxman’ presented by the people of the Isle of Man.
Unfortunately I don’t have the S/no of this aircraft.
In an idle moment of surmise (very dangerous) I did wonder if the picture above of the airman in shorts was of this earlier aircraft.
Also last night when I said I wondered if the blue of the fin flash extended upwards to cover the fin top I did actually mean the red (leading colour). Again this is just surmise and not based on a shred of evidence.
I am inclined to agree with Flood that I think the difference in colour could be attributed to a changed rudder.
The other observation I have is that there appears to be some marking on the aircraft under the rear-most portside exhaust stub. It could be just a blemish in the picture but I’d like further opinion.
Finally I too think that’s a Wing Commanders pennant. I think a Sqn Ldr had a rectangular pennant with the appropriate stripes on it.

thanks for those pictures.
Does anyone know if the words
‘Lord Lloyd I’ were actually written on the airframe anywhere?
Presentation aircraft were often inscribed.
Also I notice a couple of descrepencies between the profile and the pictures.
The fuselage roundel, especially the centre red dot might be in slightly different proportions and the picture shows that the fin top is a different colour to the rudder top immediatley adjacent.
I wonder if the blue of the fin flash extended upwards to cover the top of the fin.
Any thoughts out there?

Target Towing Gear.

Hi all
sorry to bump this back up to the top but has anyone got any further information on this equpment.
A picture of a Spanish Heinkel on the ground fitted with this gear would be wonderful.
